The Opportunity


The CPA Student Program Specialist (internal rank of Supervising Associate) role is a cross service line position responsible for the management of the firm's internal CPA preparation program and associated processes related to our CPA students on their path to membership.

It is the responsibility of this role to clearly understand the CPA Canada Professional Education Program (PEP) requirements in each region of Canada and the associated processes.

This individual will manage across all service lines the day-to-day operations of our internal CPA preparation program as well as the numerous processes related to CPA students.


This role reports to and works closely with the CPA Student Program Learning Manager as well has strong links to Recruiting, Talent, Executive Management, Assurance Leadership, and Pre-Approved Program Leaders.

The incumbent in this role will need to work well independently while collaborating with CPA team members, Talent Directors, and PPEDDs on a regular basis from all service lines, as well as supervise coordinators.

The role is positioned in the Talent Development & Learning team and will participate and collaborate on team projects.


Your key responsibilities
Teaming with the business on CPA education needs

  • Partners with National CPA Team members on the planning, deployment, and communications to implement and deliver EY's CPA educational program
  • End to end project management with mínimal supervision on assigned CPA educational programs, as well as national PEP exam and CFE exam results, CFE celebrations, and convocation celebrations
  • Creates presentations and documents to support internal CFE sessions for students and local office CFE contacts
  • Support both virtual and onsite sessions, including facilitation
  • Manages National CPA Student Program coordinators and team of IBM coordinators to ensure deployment of education initiatives cross service line, and nationally
  • Summarize and review feedback from deployed CPA student education programs, with focus on continuous improvement
  • Identify student population and oversee CPA Student Education roster management for CPA education programs, as well as Assurance Leadership, Recruiting and Executive Management initiatives
  • Creates and manages communications aligned to CPA student education programs and policies, as well as communications required for other internal stakeholders (including Assurance and Talent leadership)
  • Organize and participate in debriefs with facilitators and other stakeholders specific to EY's CFE education program, with focus on continuous improvement
  • Compile and summarize reports on education metrics required by National CPA Team, Assurance and Talent leadership which support strategic and operational issues such as annual CFE leave
  • Provide support for the National CPA Team budget, including creation of annual budget and detailed monthly analysis of budget to actual results; followup with Finance as needed
  • Attend and participate in all CPA Canada and local CPA Body meetings

Skills and attributes for success

  • Strong organizational, project and time management skills; able to coordinate multiple projects/initiatives simultaneously and meet demanding timeframes; strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to collaborate with geographically dispersed team members, students, indirect team members, client serving personnel at higher staff levels and support staff
  • Demonstrated ability and confidence working with technology and learning new software
  • Strong sense of teaming and working with others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work effectively with multiple groups across all service lines
  • Ability to collaborate with Talent Directors, PPEDDs and Regional CPA Bodies to resolve complex educational issues involving staff
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Understanding of the business, strategies and priorities, and how they translate into the needs of the CPA education program to manage stakeholder expectations and to build consensus
  • Strong coaching, consulting and facilitation skills
  • Proficient in advanced capabilities in Excel and PowerPoint (use of pivot tables and vlookup)
  • Canadian CPA designation or near completion of a Canadian CPA designation would be an asset but not required
