Community Energy Specialist:


Reporting to the Manager of Climate Action and Environment, the Community Energy Specialist functions as part of the City of Delta's Climate Action and Environment team to identify and implement low carbon energy initiatives in support of Delta's Climate Change Initiative and Community Energy and Emissions Plan.

The position will focus on both community and corporate energy and greenhouse gas reduction opportunities.


The incumbent will be responsible for the following:

  • Identifying opportunities in the City of Delta for energy and greenhouse gas emission reductions and implementation of low carbon technologies.
  • Exploring opportunities to increase corporate and community participation in incentive programs and other low carbon and energy reduction options.
  • Strategically advancing the development of policies and programs that move the City of Delta and community toward a low carbon energy future.
  • Exploring and developing business cases around energy and greenhouse gas reduction projects involving natural gas and/or renewable natural gas, including all necessary analytical work and presenting findings and recommendations to internal management and/or advisory committees;
  • Developing and executing plans to raise corporate and community awareness of incentive programs and options for low carbon energy solutions;
  • Preparing and submitting quarterly reports outlining progress against the work plan, including quantification of any associated energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions reductions; and
  • Performing other related duties as required.
  • Graduate degree in business, planning, public policy, sustainability, resource management, or a related business field;
  • Professional designation in a related field;
  • Sustainable Energy Management credentials;
  • Certified Energy Manager designation.

The following training and accreditations are also considered an asset:

  • Energy efficiency training such as CIET Energy Management Training Course;
  • LEED professional accreditation (LEED AP);
  • Project Management Professional (PMP);
  • Training in Change Management or Multi-Objective Decision Making.
