    Position Overview

    Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine-Division of Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology
    Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA) and the University of Ottawa

    We are seeking a qualified Forensic Pathologist to join the Eastern Ontario Regional Forensic Pathology Unit at The Ottawa Hospital where they will work with an experienced group of four other full-time Forensic Pathologists.

    The minimum requirements to apply include a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree, eligibility for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (see ), Royal College of Physicians (Canada) certification and/or equivalent board certification in Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology or Diagnostic and Clinical Pathology (formerly Anatomical Pathology and General Pathology), and Forensic Pathology. The candidate should also be eligible for category A status on the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service registry. The candidate should possess the ability to collaborate effectively with other medical professionals, law enforcement agencies, and lawyers, and have superior communication and interpersonal skills. A broad knowledge of applicable legislation, rules of evidence and investigative techniques is also expected.

    The candidate will be expected to participate in the overall Forensic Pathology service work, including on call service. They will have academic appointment at the University of Ottawa and are expected to participate in collaborative research and teaching activities. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience according to the University Guidelines. Salary and benefits accord with Uniform Minimum Level of Compensation (UMLC) for pathologists in Ontario, currently CAD 367,000.

    Basic Requirements

    As a pre-condition of employment, all new EORLA employees will be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check dated within six (6) months from the date of issue.

    About EORFPU
    The Eastern Ontario Regional Forensic Pathology Unit is part of the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. It is physically situated within the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital and is affiliated with the University of Ottawa. The Unit conducts routine and complicated medicolegal postmortem examinations under Coroners' warrant for the Greater Ottawa Area and Eastern Ontario, and is a referral center for complicated medicolegal autopsies for Nunavut. The Unit is expected to conduct approximately 1100 complete postmortem examinations per year, including pediatric cases requiring forensic expertise. Given our placement within the Division of Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology of EORLA, the staff at the EORFPU have ready access to experts in cardiac pathology, neuropathology, pediatric pathology, and all areas of surgical pathology, as well as comprehensive histology and immunohistochemistry.

    EORLA operates 18 regional hospital-based licensed clinical laboratories across the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (CLHIN) of Eastern Ontario including the Ottawa Hospital and the Children Hospital of Eastern Ontario. The laboratory staff includes over 725 Medical Laboratory Professionals, 70 Medical/Scientific staff and 15 Pathology Residents.
