General Responsibility:


The Nagijeung Abinoojiik Community Helper Initiative is a new project whereby community helpers will play a foundational role in the delivery of a continuum of community response services.

Community helpers will help provide children and their families/caregivers with access to the right services when needed for the right duration and intensity to ensure least disruption (i.e., prevent involvement or further involvement with the child welfare system and placement breakdowns of children in care).

The Nagijeung Abinoojiik Coordinatoris responsible for the overall development, implementation, management, and supervision of the Community Helper Initiative Program.

The Community Helper Initiative Coordinator assumes all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Centre's philosophy, direction and policy standards combined with the goals, objectives, and priorities of the Community Helper Initiative Program.

Proficient program development skills and experience are required.


The Nagijeung Abinoojiik Coordinator is the staff representative from Community Helper Initiative Program which is made up of Steering Committee members who are representatives from Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, Macdonald Youth Services and Fearless R2W.

The Community Helper Initiative Coordinator will oversee the work of Community Helper Initiative including but not limited to developing a brand new 24/7 resource to support vulnerable inner city families in partnership with Macdonald Youth Services Mobile Crisis Program and Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata's Home Based Crisis Intervention Services, facilitating collaboration and collective action among steering committee members; reporting back to the steering committee, program development and management, on-boarding, supervising, supporting and training community helper staff, work with the Steering Committee to address system gaps that prevent engagement and be the representative engaged in the comprehensive evaluation.


Knowledge and Experience Requirements:


  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience working with the Indigenous community, particularly in the North End and innercity families in Winnipeg.
  • Proficient program development skills with minimum 2years developmental experience
  • Demonstrated experience working in community development.
  • Strong understanding of communitybased models of practice and 24hour caring response.
  • Strong motivational and leadership skills
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and strong organizational and consultative skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including effective use of computer software such as Microsoft Office and all social media platforms
  • Strong and articulate proposal and report writing skills.
  • Responsible for reporting data collected to funders.
  • Community service orientated to effectively meet needs in a timely manner.
  • A team player that encourages an environment that fosters effective results.
  • Respectful to engage people and build helping relationships.
  • Flexible to respond effectively and positively in diverse relationships.
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain a high level of independence and selfinitiative.
  • Supervisory experience and ability to provide supervision and support to a small staff team.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License an asset
  • Must submit to mandatory child abuse registry / prior contact check and criminal record check and vulnerable check.
