The School Support Financial Specialist provides a first point of contact for school administration on

questions and concerns relating to the financial operation of school sites. The incumbent(s) provide

comprehensive on-site and remote support, analysis and training on financial matters and the

activities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide remote and onsite training and support to school administration on financial tasks and responsibilities
  • Administer the corporate purchasing card program, including cardholder security, card maintenance, distribution of cards and personal identification numbers, and credit limits
  • Review and approve school budget transactions, ensuring transactions are appropriate and in compliance with Board policies and procedures
  • Initiate and facilitate financial workshops and presentations, e.g. Board financial software programs and yearend preparation
  • Prepare and process yearend reports, account adjustments, etc

WORK PERFORMED:


  • Provide training and support in the use of Board and school generated funds according to policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Research, reconcile and interpret general ledger transactions and financial issues
  • Analyze data and prepare information for various reports
  • Facilitate and monitor the monthly school generated funds reconciliations and the yearend process for school generated fund reporting
  • Liaise with Board banking institution to rectify school banking issues
  • Liaise with Internal Audit staff and assist schools with the implementation of audit recommendations
  • Administer and update financial security on software programs for school generated funds and corporate purchasing cards
  • Assist schools with questions on fundraising initiatives
  • Assist with any financial investigations as required

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective communication both orally and in writing to provide exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of accounting/business principles and practices
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:


  • Completion of two (2) years postsecondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of related work experience is required
