-Primary responsibilities are to support Cedar Place participants and tenants, and maintain the premises to ensure safety and security of the property and program participants

-Reports to Program Coordinator

-Full time, permanent

-Rotational 10 hours night shifts, 4-on, 4-off schedule

The Overnight Attendant (OA) reports to the Program Coordinator and works collaboratively with the Cedar House Team to ensure the safety and well being of program participants, staff, volunteers and visitors.

Our goal is to support vulnerable and at risk clients engaged in participant and community programs.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Patrol all areas of the property and assist participants and visitors with facility access:


  • Monitors security feeds and conduct daily physical hazard inspections;
  • Applies a personcentered approach with clients, which includes using culturally appropriate/sensitive approaches;
  • Maintains information and communication logs to and ensure reporting is accurate and uptodate; this is essential. Prepare incident and information reports summarizing relevant information;
  • Ensures conduct is professional and collaborative, and represents JHSNS in a positive image;
  • Follows policy and procedures to ensure safety and security at all times;
  • Ensures OH&S issues, incidents and complaints are reported and followedup on or resolved on a timely basis.
  • Mitigates hazards associated with working with participants;

Provincial Office: 1-541 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville NS B4C 2S- Manages Personal Protective Equipment inventory and issues to staff and participants as required.


  • Monitors stock levels of stationery and supplies;
  • Mitigates risk in relation to unpredictable and volatile situations;
  • Establishes understanding in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Demonstrates experience in working with marginalized adults and/or communities, particularly criminalized population;
  • Exhibits sound knowledge of human rights legislation and related law;
  • Recognises behaviours that may result from mental health and addictions; requires an understanding of the behavioural results of trauma;
  • Oversees the safety and cleanliness standards of the dropin centre and detached residential units, taking corrective or remedial action as required;
  • Other duties may be required from timetotime.

Working Conditions:


  • Rotational shifts up to 10 hours in duration, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • The position requires moderate amounts of walking, climbing stairs, standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, and both scheduled and unscheduled interactions with others;
  • May require working outside for periods of time all seasons and weather conditions;
  • May include exposure to body fluids, infections, and communicable diseases;
  • The position may be fastpaced, demanding, and at times stressful, requiring significant mental effort to analyze information, problem solve and support people.

Experience & Qualifications:


Required:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Must be able to work as part of a team;
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills using strengthbased, actionoriented approaches for systems navigation across the Social Determinants of Health;
  • Previous experience of recor
