Description

Working under the supervision of the Director, Athletics, Leisure & Community Programs, the Coordinator, Community & Inclusive Programs is responsible for executing the Y's community programming for youth and adults in alignment with the community engagement strategy of the organization and with the Y's overall mission and strategy.

The Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing programs and processes throughout the Y that ensure active and meaningful involvement of all members of our community, including those with intellectual, physical or mental health disabilities.

Tasks range from coordination of high quality recreational programs for youth and adults, to arranging the appropriate supports so that disabled participants can actively engage in mainstream recreation programming and realize the full potential of their membership.

This individual is also an integral member of the Jewish day camp leadership team, coordinating camp programs for youth during summer months and school breaks.


Duties

  • Develop, implement and evaluate program content geared towards the social and physical health and wellbeing of our community
  • This includes but is not limited to people with intellectual, physical or mental health disabilities
  • Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and supervise part time staff, counsellors, companions, strategies and volunteers (where applicable) to animate and support general and inclusive programming as needed
  • Monitor income and expenses, prepare staff time sheets and collect fees to ensure conformity with approved budget
  • Support the successful integration of participants with disabilities into mainstream Y programming through the provision of companions, including hiring, training, and supervising them
  • Analyze and finetune processes across the Y to maximize accessibility, equity and inclusion
  • Act as an integral part of the day camp leadership team
  • Serve as a point person for inquiries related to programming
  • Serve as a point person for inquiries related to inclusion programming, membership or access
  • Develop and maintain an open and cooperative relationship with parents, guardians, group home supervisors, etc., keeping them informed of program content, participant progress etc.
  • Manage outreach and actively recruit participants to our programs
  • Coordinate adaptive transit where applicable
  • Incorporate Jewish culture, traditions and holiday celebrations into programming where appropriate
  • Give tours of the building to prospective participants and their families
  • Order and maintain approved equipment and supplies
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Director, Athletics, Leisure & Community Programs

Education, Knowledge and Skills

  • A passion for inclusive programming and for building relationships with individuals and communities
  • A desire to deliver high quality recreational programs and communitybuilding experiences
  • At least 23 years' experience working directly with individuals of all ages with cognitive disabilities
  • Willing to work evenings and Sundays as necessary
  • Excellent people skills, communication skills and is highly organized
  • Ability to multitask
  • Technologically savvy
  • Bilingual (English and French)
  • Experience working in or knowledge of the Jewish community an asset
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
