Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system.

We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto's subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier.

This role focuses on LRT Fleet, including but not limited to Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) rolling stock; LRV on-board equipment and integrations with guideway-and-facility-based Signals & Train Control Systems (S&TCS) and Communications Systems; Maintenance-of-Way and Rescue equipment/vehicles; and Industrial Equipment for LRV cleaning, maintenance, inspection, and repair.


What will I be doing?

  • Managing operational and project activities for the inspection, maintenance, expansion and/or rehabilitation of Metrolinx LRT network equipment.
  • Overseeing contractor work and performance to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Instituting measures and controls to ensure full contractor compliance with agreement terms and conditions governing the delivery of services.
  • Overseeing and executing functional area infrastructure projects encompassing design, construction, project scope, schedule, quality. and budget objectives, while integrating requirements associated with corporate standards, guidelines, policies and procedures, with mínimal impact on operations and customer service.
  • Developing project tenders, specifications, and requirements; evaluating submissions and recommending contract awards for management approval.
  • Creating requirements for, and reviewing consultant studies together with design proposals, making implementation recommendations.
  • Overseeing the prioritization of work for minimum disruption to operational efficiency and maintain consistent levels of customer service performance; coordinates and cooperates with third party (e.g. municipalities, regions, property/landowners, utilities, road authorities) operations and works.
  • Leading the development of yearly and ongoing asset registers, key performance measures, and action plans that improve productivity, effectiveness, maintainability, reliability and lifespan of assets to ensure plans and subsequent decisions are made via evidence based and empirical decision making.
  • Planning and overseeing the regular inspection and testing of assets to detect and resolve flaws/defects.
  • Analyzing reports and tests to determine the nature and seriousness of problems; recommending appropriate remedies/rehabilitation/repairs based on cost, safety, service and strategic plans, for management review and approval.
  • Collaborating with staff from the Engineering and Asset Management office and Asset Lifecycle office on performance, plans and recommended maintenance approaches.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal operations staff, vendors, and stakeholders to support planning and implementation of maintenance, expansion and/or rehabilitation activities and minimize the impact on rapid transit operations.
  • Manages maintenance and rehabilitation activities associated with the LRT systems ensuring delivery supports customer service and revenue generation objectives.
  • Manages capital and operating budgets, and expenditures allocated to maintenance, expansion and/or rehabilitation programs/projects to ensure appropriate cost control and proactively manage variances.
  • Creates a working environment that is aligned with the organization's values and goals, ensuring that people resources possess the required skills, are properly aligned, and are provided with the resources to do the job.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a degree in Engineering (e.g. Civil, Transportation, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.), applied science, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent and applicable for this functional area.
  • Minimum eight (8) years' related experience in progressively more responsible roles managing fleet maintenance, rehabilitation, expansion, or delivery programs/projects, including leading a team.
  • A valid Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) is an asset.
  • A valid Ontario Class G driver's license is required to travel to various site locations, meetings, operational facilities, etc. The incumbent must meet and maintain the corporate standard for a good driving record.
