Job Description:


Reporting to the Dean, AC Online, the Business Administrator is primarily responsible for the effective and efficient financial operations of AC Online.

The incumbent is responsible for the development of multi-year budgets, providing analysis for strategic decision making and reporting to the College Budget Committee.

The incumbent provides leadership and support related to the business operations of AC Online in several areas, including:

financial and operational performance reporting, forecasting, enrolment projections, program delivery, allocation and procurement management, business model analysis, and vendor contract negotiations/recommendations.


Working closely with the Dean and Department Managers, the incumbent plans, develops, organizes, directs and controls the annual budget process for the department.

He/she prepares and organizes materials for budget deliberations, sets budget targets, and creates and composes narrative details to describe budget changes.

S/he develops solutions and alternatives for balancing budgets or funding new initiatives and prepares both departmental annual and quarterly budget submissions and facilitates resolutions of variances.

S/he assists the Dean in the preparation of budgets for reporting to the Senior Vice President Academic and the College Budget Committee.

The incumbent develops a budget tracking process and oversees the monthly budget performance of the department and provides planning, directions and strategic input with colleagues during quarterly reviews in Budget Preparation including the management and oversight of Responsibility Centred Management (RCM) funds.


Within the scope and mandate of AC Online, the incumbent also supports and facilitates a variety of business development requirements including, but not limited to, contract negotiation, lead generation, memorandums of understanding/agreements, contract administration (terms and conditions, cost recovery, risk mitigation etc.) and other related duties as required.


The incumbent is familiar with the College Strategic and Business plans, the AC Online Strategic Plan/Business Plan, and overall College initiatives.

S/he is able to communicate and work effectively with personnel at all levels both internally and externally.


Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a four (4) year degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance, Accounting or related field;
  • Certified Professional Accounting Designation (CPA);
  • A minimum of nine (9) years of related and progressive experience;
  • Sound knowledge of the Academic Area and Administrative Areas and their respective Operations;
  • Strong analytical and coordination skills;
  • Project Management Skills;
  • Experience with large organization financial, budget, HR and accounting systems;
  • Ability to maintain standards for efficiency and effectiveness;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with all levels of College operations on a daily basis;
  • This position is paid at Payband 1
