The Manager, Human Rights and Social Impact, plays an integral role in Scotiabank's Global Communications, Social Impact & Sustainability (GCSIS) team, supporting the implementation of the Bank's enterprise-wide human rights strategy.

The role works with the Senior Manager, Social Impact as well as stakeholders across the enterprise to align Scotiabank's business and operations with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).


Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Support the implementation of the enterprise-wide human rights strategy and ongoing integration of the human rights statement across the business; managing parallel workstreams that serve to operationalize the Bank's public commitments.
  • Lead select projects as part of this implementation, with direction from Senior Manager.
  • Coordinate working group responsible for drafting the annual modern slavery statement.
  • Support the Senior Manager, Social Impact to report on progress to senior leadership and in public disclosures such as the annual ESG Report.
  • Liaise with Communications and other internal partners across the Bank's global footprint to improve internal awareness of human rights initiatives.
  • Support the Social Impact and Global Sustainability teams to keep abreast of emerging human rightsrelated issues and trends to inform our work by:
  • Maintaining knowledge of legislative trends, international standards, and best practice approaches in corporate human rights programs in financial and other sectors.
  • Conducting research and analysis on industry best practices and benchmarking peer activities.
  • Monitoring and assessing evolving stakeholder expectations.
  • Fostering a network of peers inside and outside the bank to share learnings.
  • Presenting research findings regularly to the Social Impact team and other groups within the Bank.
  • Support activities for Scotiabank's human rightsrelated external partnerships and engagements.
  • Support the team with other social impact initiatives, as needed.
  • Champion a customerfocused culture to deepen internal client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Champion a highperformance culture and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in daytoday activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her/their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of daytoday business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Minimum 4+ years of relevant work experience in a corporate setting.
  • Experienced program manager, with demonstrated accountability and experience with executivelevel stakeholders.
  • Effective communication, presentation skills, and influencing skills, with an ability to build strong relationships.
  • Strong understanding of corporate sustainability and its relevance and applicability to a financial institution.
  • Knowledge of & experience with human rights and other social sustainability matters a strong asset, including knowledge of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
  • Spanish proficiency is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the financial sector desired.
  • Resultsoriented with strong project management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks, changing priorities, and a continually evolving and fastpaced environment.
