Acadian Seaplants Limited has an immediate requirement for a Resource Manager based in Western Nova Scotia.


The Resource Manager is responsible for managing all aspect of Acadian Seaplants Limited resource management and procurement plans in the licensed areas of Western Nova Scotia.

This includes budgeting, recruiting harvesters, planning and managing harvest activity to ensure a safe sustainable harvest. The Resource Manager will analyze, evaluate and resolve all management, procurement and recruiting requirements in the above area.


Your Role:

Working closely with the Resource Manager - Nova Scotia, you will:

  • Assure the weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual quantities of Resource from within the Territory are secured and delivered promptly.
  • Request, assign, maintain all company equipment such as boats, motors, unloading platforms, nets, etc. in a responsible manner.
  • Assure the harvest is carried out in compliance with Company, Provincial and Federal Governments regulations, policy and compliance.
  • Execute approved budget in a timely and efficient manner to produce the quantity and quality raw material at budgeted costs.
  • Prepare annual Resource Management Plans to the defined standard and submit on time to the Resource Manager.
  • Work with the Resource Manager to prepare an annual budget encompassing all components of the marine harvest in the Territory including the harvest plan for all raw material and the operational cost and expenses.
  • Provide Yarmouth office with collection of all harvest data and relative expenses to satisfy company requirements.
  • Work with Harvesters, Resource Science and Resource Management to improve the harvesting methods for sustainability and optimum biomass utilization.
  • Work with the Resource Manager to establish and maintain logistics planning to assure seaweed is transported in a timely way to preserve quality.
  • Work with the Resource Manager to assure annual harvest reports are prepared and submitted for prior year.
  • Work with the Resource Manager and Resource Science in implementing a system that organizes a comprehensive understanding of: Quantities supplied by each Harvester on a weekly, quarterly, and yearly basis; identification byload and Harvester as to which landing site is used for each load; plus, overall harvest landings by area, landing sites and sectors; resource conservation and assessment information in harmony with the Resource Scientist.
  • Work with the Resource Manager to prepare and submit for approval yearly harvest management plans detailing harvesting landing sites, sector harvesting budgets and limits, closed and open sectors, study sites, longterm closed areas, resource monitoring and control, policing and compliance plans, data collection, reporting and Kick Off Harvester meetings participation and ID cards.
  • As directed by the Resource Manager, provide planned, daily spot checking of seaweed quality atharvest and at landing sites. Assure that Harvesters are the first line of defense in keeping foreign materials out of the Asco and in assuring the purity, quality and freshness of the Asco for production of products.
  • Work in concert with the Resource Manager to ensure all harvest equipment is available prior to the commencement of the harvest season and is maintained in proper working order.
  • Work with the Resource Manager to control costs through financial planning and maintaining budgetary boundaries.
  • Ensure all harvesting activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures, policies and manage the natural resource to maintain sustainability. Furthermore, ensure all operational requirements are in place to produce the required budget volumes of raw material.
  • Ensure proper use of harvester accommodations in accordance with the Harvest Accommodations Agreement
  • Support the company's vision and policies regarding Health & Safety, Corporate Culture, Environmental Management and the Progressive Excellence Program by displaying the appropriate behaviors and leadership towards meeting the company's objectives in these areas.

HARVESTER MANAGEMENT

  • Develop sustainable harvesters for new and existing areas that will include training individuals in viable harvesting techniques. Train harvesters in sector reporting, safety harvesting skills to maintain responsible, long term, sustainable harvesting employment with the company.
  • Manage and administer disciplinary policies set out by Acadian Seaplants Limited to comply with harvesting guidelines and governments regulations. This will be done by policing of harvesters on the water with the use of a company vessel.
  • Provide leadership, motivation and service to the harvesters on a daytoday basis. Manage the handling and bagging of raw material from boats at landing platforms and shore landing sites. The loading of transport trucks in a timely manner assuring top quality raw material delivered to processing plants.
