The Opportunity:


We are growing our reclamation and revegetation team in Alberta and have an opportunity for a revegetation ecologist to join us in our Closure/Reclamation practice.

As a revegetation ecologist with us, you will be able to use and expand your skills and knowledge to help tackle a diverse array of reclamation and revegetation scopes of work across various industries in Western Canada.

Responsibilities will include completing field programs, assisting in office-based tasks relating to reclamation certification, reclamation and revegetation planning, reclamation and revegetation monitoring, and field research trials, as well as collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing field programs, evaluate field data, and ensure quality assurance and quality control standards are met;
  • Participate in and/or lead field assessments such as: prereclamation surveys, reclamation certificate assessments, reclamation monitoring programs, and reclamation and/or revegetation research trials;
  • Work with senior technical staff and project managers to develop wellwritten technical reports such as reclamation and revegetation plans;
  • Put your practical and inquisitive mind to work by supporting mine closure and reclamation projects
  • Work independently and in a supportive team environment;
  • Work long hours hours) in outdoor settings and in variable weather conditions;
  • Field work throughout Western Canada, with officebased tasks as available;
  • Participate in and promote a safetyfirst culture.

What you'll bring to WSP:


  • University degree (minimum undergraduate) in in environmental or natural sciences, with a focus in conservation, reclamation, soil science and/or vegetation ecology;
  • 35 years of relevant (postdegree) experience in reclamation assessments, revegetation planning, and environmental monitoring (soils and/or vegetation), along with associated technical reporting;
  • Experience with soil classification and description;
  • Experience with plant identification;
  • Experience with research design and implementation, along with field data collection data analysis, is considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of environmental and mining regulations is considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of regional reclamation guidelines such as the Alberta 2010 Reclamation Criteria and Guidelines is considered an asset;
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams;
  • Possession of valid safety certificates such as First Aid, Ground Disturbance Level II, CSTS, and ATV/UTV/Argo is considered an asset;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational abilities;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to travel throughout Western Canada;
  • Valid drivers license and clean Driver's Abstract
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with AIA, ASPB, and/or BCIA.
