Description
The HSE Advisor's role is to assist superintendents and foremen in carrying out daily work operations in a safe, healthy, and environmentally sound manner that aligns and complies with the HSE Management System, the site-specific Safety Plan, and government legislation.
HSE advisors act as a mentor, and coach personnel to safely carry out daily work activities.HSE advisors are responsible and accountable to:
- Prioritize Safety of self and others in all aspects of the job
- Lead with strong safety leadership through desirable behaviours, attitudes, and mindset to further develop our culture of safety
- Provide guidance and coaching to management to exhibit high levels of safety leadership and continuously improve safety performance
- Facilitate the implementation and administration of corporate HSE policies, processes and systems and monitor compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations
- Provide consultation and assist in the management of risk through formal risk assessments, job hazard analysis, and project planning
- Conduct regular HSE audits, inspections, and observations to support safe work behaviours and provide recommendations to management
- Support the performance and effectiveness of Occupational Health and Hygiene program through industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure control plans
- Lead the incident management program including the management of workplace injuries and illnesses
- Act as a liaison between the company and external stakeholders or industry regulators
- Facilitate new employee orientations as per company procedure.
- Assist site supervision in resolving any health, safety and environment issues that may occur.
- Participate in the updating of the JHA in the event of a change.
- Maintain an open line of communication with employees.
- Post safety documentation and work permits.
- Participate in foreman and client HSE meetings.
- Conduct formal and informal worksite inspections.
- Assist in all incident investigations.
- Participate in safety meetings and deliver safety information.
Experience:
- Post-Secondary education in the field of Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Sciences.
- 57 years of experience in a health and safety position.
- NCSO or CRSP/CRST designation is preferred.
- Experience in developing and managing programs that will lead certification (OHSAS, IS, WorkSafeBC Certificate of Recognition)
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations
- Knowledge of Provincial, Federal laws and regulations
- Team player who can effectively work with all levels of employees and influence to continually improve the safety culture.
- Ability to set, commit to and meet deadlines
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing business needs
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment
- Mature, professional, and optimistic
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and records
- Keen desire to work in the field
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work indoors and outdoors
- Site visits mandatory
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Excellent computer skills (MS Office, MS Project, etc.)
- Holds a valid driver's license and clean abstract
- Will be required to participate in Drug & Alcohol testing
