    BTC1700HF – Molecular Biology Laboratory

    This laboratory based course introduces and expands upon fundamental experimental techniques used in bio-medical research. It is intended to provide "hands-on" experience working with nucleic acids and proteins.

    Hours: 195 hours each

    RATE: $52.26 hour as per CUPE Unit 3 Collective Agreement

    Dates of Appointment: Labs: May 29th 2024 to July 5th 2024 (Monday – Friday 8:30AM – 5:00PM)

    Qualifications

    Advanced degree in molecular biology, biochemistry (or suitable combination of experience and education); experience with elementary laboratory techniques, including plasmid DNA isolation, cloning, heterologous expression in E. coli and/or P. pastoris, protein purification, SDS PAGE, Western blotting, etc.

    PhD in Life Science is an advantage.

    Duties

    Supervising student teams groups of 3-4 students each) during research projects; demonstrating and/or assisting with laboratory techniques; day-to-day routine supervision of laboratory activities; reviewing and contributing to experimental protocols as necessary; and assisting with overall implementation of the course, as required by the instructor.
