LIFE GUARD - Summer Programming

(Therapeutic Summer and Live In Treatment Programs)

Primary Responsibilities:


  • To supervise children and youth swim times for out Therapeutic Summer Program (July) and the Live In Treatment Program (July & August);
  • To help plan, organize and conduct enjoyable, therapeutic pool activities;
  • To monitor the condition of pool water and water levels and ensure the appropriate chemical treatment is applied;
  • To maintain the highest safety standards at all times at the pool;
  • To maintain a clean pool and pool area;
  • To monitor and fill in all pool log requirements;
  • To oversee the use and maintenance of all pool related equipment;
  • To be responsible for first aid at the pool area including maintenance of the first aid kit and equipment;
  • To prevent accidents and be constantly alert to danger;
  • To work as a team with the other program staff;
  • To participate in the programing as deemed appropriate by the Program Coordinator and Live In Treatment Supervisor;
  • To assist in the delivery of the summer programming when not at the pool.

Accountability:

To be supervised by the Summer Program Coordinator (July) and the Live In Treatment Program Coordinator (August).


Skills and Knowledge:


  • Strong swimmer, have lifesaving skills, be physically fit with normal hearing and good vision, be observant, be able to cope in an emergency.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Leadership experience with children and youth.
  • Be a good role model for all children and youth at all times.
  • National Lifeguard certification. Red Cross and/or R.L.S.S. Instructor (Examiner qualifications preferred.)
  • C.P.R. Basic Rescuer Certificate.
  • Recognized First Aid Certificate (eg. Aquatic Emergency Care, Standard or occupational First Aid).
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Selfstarter ability to look for jobs that need to be done.
  • High School Completion.
  • Previous summer life guarding an asset.
  • Experience with children with special needs an asset.
  • Organized, friendly and professional.
