As we continue to build our team in Merritt, we have an opportunity for a mechanically minded individual to join our team as a Technical Machine Operator.

The hours of work are typically Monday to Friday, day shift, 40 hours per week with overtime offered, as needed, to meet business demand.

Some of the responsibilities and qualifications for this role include:

  • Under the guidance of the Plant Manager, leading a production department in a positive manner to ensure production schedules and initiatives are completed
  • Maintain quality workmanship by following Standard Operating Procedures and quality standards
  • Coach and train team members in the department on production and safety procedures
  • Encourage ideas, problemsolving and continuous improvement within the team
  • Participate in and leading team huddles on a daily basis along with updating information boards
  • Communicate with the Plant Manager and Maintenance Supervisor on the status of production progress or any equipment concerns
  • Commitment to providing a safe work environment by ensuring safety and company policies and procedures are understood and followed
  • Operate a Hess machine that produces precast concrete products such as paving stones, sidewalk slabs and retaining walls
  • Crosstrain at various workstations to be able to rotate jobs to build a cohesive team where teamwork, problem solving, and continuous improvement are focused on
  • Follow daily job travelers to ensure orders are complete
  • Assist with the Total Preventative Maintenance program for the machine
  • Become forklift and crane certified to operate equipment inside the plant and in the yard
  • Operation of a payloader
  • Responsible for tracking data and information in computer system
  • Experience leading a small team of people
  • Leadership skills that are motivational, positive, and geared towards problemsolving
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for training, team building and conducting daily huddles
  • Willingness to learn about precast concrete, production processes and various equipment
  • Previous manufacturing experience or experience related to precast concrete/concrete pouring and forming an asset
  • Experience operating heavily automated production equipment a strong asset
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot irregularities on production machinery
  • Basic maintenance experience and a mechanical aptitude an asset
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Experience using precision measuring tools for quality checks
  • Comfortable with using computers for entering data and recording information
  • Familiar with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement concepts
  • An eye for detail and color to create products that meet customer expectations
  • Physical activities including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, lifting (up to 50lbs), reaching, using arms/hands to operate equipment, visually distinguishing colors
  • Required to wear a hardhat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection at all times and a respirator (which requires an employee to be cleanshaven) when needed for specific jobs.
