About the Opportunity:


Reporting to the Director of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) and in co-leadership with the Division Heads of Clinical Chemistry and Hematopathology, the Technical Manager, Community Based Laboratories (CBL) is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine services at the following locations: Cobequid Community Health Centre, Hants Community Hospital, Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital and the Bayer's Lake Community Outpatient Centre.

In close collaboration with the Laboratory Client and Support Manager, and other Divisional Technical Managers, the CBL Manager is responsible for the provision of a timely, high quality technical and blood collection service within the community based facilities which includes on site laboratory services for Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, and Point of Care testing.

The CBL Manager ensures staffing and pre analytical processes are in place to support blood collection (inpatient and outpatient) as well as other specimen collection, processing and /or handling and transport for all laboratory divisions, including Anatomical Pathology, Esoteric and Microbiology testing (located at the Mackenzie Laboratory).

The CBL Manager is responsible for implementation of standardized pre-analytical and analytical processes and instrumentation within the zone.

The Manager will collaborate on the management of resources and on strategic planning and development of the services to ensure continuous improvement and to support the clinical, research and academic mandates of DPLM.

The LCSC Manager collaborates and works consultatively with all divisions to ensure services offered comply with laboratory standards and accreditation requirements.

The CBL Manager participates on provincial committee/meetings and works with laboratory management across the province as required.


About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of an approved MLT program with either ART (Advanced Registered Technologist) or completion of a formal management program or commitment to complete a formal management program within 5 years of hire
  • Current licensure with NSCMLT and certification with CSMLS
  • Five (5) years medical laboratory technologist experience in a clinical laboratory setting plus five (5) years supervisory or management experience in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Technical experience in Core Chemistry and Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, preferred
  • Experience in pre analytical processes including Blood Collection, preferred
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and decision skills in support of patient, family and clientcentred laboratory services
  • Expert knowledge of evidencebased practices to inform strategy development and organizational planning
  • Experience in strategic planning and systems thinking
  • Experience in collaborative problem solving of complex multifaceted issues
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, analytical problem solving and objective decisionmaking
  • Understanding of the principles of project management and demonstrated ability to lead work teams
  • Experience in leading change
  • Knowledge and experience related to quality improvement methodologies. (e.g., LEAN)
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills that are responsive to audience needs
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fastpaced healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of computer systems, including laboratory information systems
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting laboratory statistical data and monitoring quality and performance indicators and benchmarks
  • Expertise in financial planning and personnel management in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Demonstrates and follows LEADS leadership capabilities
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French
