Animal Services Officer / Dispatcher
London Animal Care Center is seeking a qualified individual to fulfill the position of Dispatcher and Animal Services Officer.
London Animal Care Centre is contracted by the City of London to provide animal control, dog licensing, cat identification, and by-law enforcement services.
Key Responsibilities
A Dispatcher is a dedicated, and caring individual who will be fulfilling the needs of 3 specific areas within the organization:1) Animal Control and By-Law Enforcement Support - This involves handling all incoming/outgoing calls, dispatching calls for service to our officers, and assisting citizens with all matters regarding our services.
2) Customer Relation - This involves assisting members of the public with municipal pet licenses and identification, adoptions, claims, and any other customer service matters.
3) Administration - This includes, opening/closing procedures, daily cash balancing, data entry/record keeping, and other duties as assigned.
An Animal Services Officer is a compassionate, understanding, and sympathetic individual who is empowered to enforce municipal animal by-laws.
As such, Animal Service Officers are officers that are entrusted to specific duties that include, but not limited to:
1) Enforcement of all applicable animal control by-laws and provincial legislation.
2) Humane capture, control, and care for wildlife, domestic, and exotic animals.
3) Providing education, advice and assistance to the public.
4) Assisting with maintaining the municipal animal shelter.
5) Other duties as deemed fit to meet LACC's mandate.
Required Abilities, Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of a postsecondary diploma in animal care, law, security, or police foundations.
- A minimum of 1 year of related experience.
- Must be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows.
- Have excellent communication, record keeping, organization, and customer service skills.
- Must demonstrate sound judgement, tactfulness and courtesy to deal with the general public on issues of a sensitive and potentially controversial nature.
- Should be able to take criticism and verbal abuse from the public without reacting negatively or be impacted by it.
- The ability to exercise discretion and diplomacy.
- Must be comfortable in dealing with matters that are graphic in nature.
- Be able to work in a fast paced environment, both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrate strong problem solving, decision making, and prioritizing skills.
- The physical fitness and ability to climb, lift, and move heavy items.
- A valid Class "G" Driver's Licence and in good standing.
- The ability and willingness to work days, nights, weekends, and statuary holidays.
- The ability and willingness to be on call overnight to respond to calls for service.
- Clean Police Record Check
Preferred Abilities, Skills and Qualifications
- Working knowledge of bylaws and legislation.
- Working knowledge of the care, behaviour, and keeping of animals.
- Strong research, analytical, and interpretive skills.
- Dispatch experience or office experience
Wage will be commensurate on experience.
