Overview
The Saskatchewan Research Council's (SRC) Environmental Remediation team is seeking a summer student to participate in field activities in support of Project CLEANS (Cleanup of Abandoned Northern Sites).
Accountabilities
- Participate in field activities to support the assessment and remediation of abandoned uranium mines in northern Saskatchewan
- Conduct environmental sampling of soil, surface and ground water and waste rock
- Assist with environmental data management, analysis and interpretation
- Participate in gamma radiation surveys
- Participate in report preparation
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or technologist program in an environment related field
- Experience conducting field work is an asset
Skills
- Strong understanding of best practices for quality work and workplace safety
- Team player with effective interpersonal, communication, multitasking and problemsolving skills
- Willingness to learn and stay flexible as daily job tasks may vary
- Ability to selfmotivate, follow detailed instructions and carry out tasks with mínimal supervision
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence
- Extended work hours (up to 12 hours per day), as required
- Work remotely in radiationimpacted abandoned mine sites in northern Saskatchewan
- Travel by small aircraft, boat and allterrain vehicle and work onsite for up to two weeks at a time during the field season
- Walking in rugged, forested terrain with 20lb (10kg) backpack for up to 10 hours per day
