We love our homelike feel as it is beautiful and filled with natural light, cozy surroundings and stellar views. And we are proud to be just steps away from Phibbs Bus Exchange and right on the bike route to promote green responsible living.


We are
seeking an inaugural Resident and Family Ambassador to passionately lead Person and Family Centered Care through input, participation and feedback.

As an inspiring leader, you are drawn to serving in long term care, promoting connection and liaising with the home.

The Ambassador supports the Resident/Family Council, and works closely with the home's General Manager towards a shared pursuit of Person & Family-Centred Care (PFCC) and in accordance with the vision, mission and values of the home.

The position provides leadership in communication best practices and promotes open, regular input and feedback. This position is a flexible part-time position hours/month) and comes with a 1-year appointment/contract with an honorarium.

Working to support the home's Strategic Pillar of Person & Family-Centred Care and in accordance with the Pillars of Safety as a Priority, Quality & Innovation, a Great Place to Live/Work and Sustainability, the position:


  • Builds relationships with Residents and family member by regularly outreaching to Residents/families for specific input and/or to promote involvement including ongoing invite to Resident/Family council.

Chairs and organizes the Resident/Family Council(s), in collaboration with the homes Social Worker & Wellness Manager, to address topics of priority for Resident/families

Supports and encourages participation in the Healthy Living Committee and the Food Lover Committee with the Recreation Manager and Support Service Manager as part of promoting quality of life at the home

Promotes a PFCC-approach to Resident safety including:

  • Chairing and organizing a Resident Safety Committee
  • Coordinating specific quality and safety task forces, as needed
  • Organizing a Resident Safety week, in collaboration with the Clinical Practice Manager

Provide input on operational directives, including Policy as needed. Reviews survey questions and report results (i.e. move-in/welcome, departure, safety and satisfaction) through the lens of PFCC, both for feedback and for recommendations.

Assists the home to understand the active and ongoing role of Residents/families and equally supports the home's Team by educating Residents/families as needed.

Serves as an advocate for collective Resident/family concerns and communicates issues directly to the General Manager

Reports quarterly to both the Residents/families group and to the General Manager on the status of initiatives and quantitative measures relating to role.

  • A passion for geriatrics/long term care and a desire to lead through best practices including Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA), PIECES and Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP);
  • A love of learning and growing others through education, coaching and rolemodeling;
  • A confidence with technology and solid experience with echarts/Point Click Care, MDS and CIHI;
  • A value of Risk Management and Work Safe practices to ensure safety as a priority; and
  • An understanding of the 247 services which requires a flexible mindset for leading, including shared management for weekend, evening, and night shift teams.

Your skills, abilities and training include:

  • Retired or current diploma or degree in a health or social science field relevant to LTC or
  • Current student in a health or social science field relevant to or
  • Past experience as a long term care Family member
  • Health Care Advocacy experience an asset
  • Council Chair or Cochair experience an asset
  • Two (2) years' recent related experience in a long term care or equivalent setting
  • Expertise in communication and facilitation through use of summarizing, checking, interpretation, conflict resolution and boundary setting skills.
  • Physical abilities to perform the duties of the position including computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and within an interdisciplinary team including ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written documentation
  • Patience, perseverance, flexibility, listening skills,
  • Openness to new ideas and ways of working,
  • Willingness to learn, willingness to educate and to be educated, ability to work positively and proactively
  • Ability to see strengths in all people and in all situations and to build on these strengths, and a sense of humor.
