The
INFECTION CONTROL PRACTITIONER I, CONSTRUCTION is an integral member of the Infection Prevention and Control Department.

The Construction Infection Control Team works in the capacity of a consultant to meet the needs of an evolving infection and prevention practice as it relates to health care facility renovation, construction and maintenance.


Duties
- architectural drawing review (blue prints); hoarding plan review
- hoarding inspections; Activity Permit approvals; attendance at construction meetings
- performing surveillance activities as they pertain to construction related infections
- acting as a resource for internal and external clients (i.e. other hospitals, government agencies, etc.)
- providing consultation services on an on-call basis including occasional evening and weekend on-call
- providing education and training to internal and external personnel
- participating in research activities that will generate funds and advance the practice of Infection Control at UHN
- performing continuous Quality Improvement responsibilities
- participating in professional development and education activities/programs to ensure excellence in the provision of Infection Prevention and Control services at multiple sites across the integrated health care delivery spectrum
- performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.


Qualifications:


  • B.Sc. in Health or Allied Health Sciences, or recognized equivalent
  • Minimum four years of relevant experience
  • Experience working in a hospital, longterm care facility, or public health facility
  • IPAC Canada membership preferred (to be completed upon hire)
  • Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC), preferred. Required to complete within 2 years of hire
  • Current license or registration from appropriate bodies (i.e. College of Medical Laboratory Technologists, College of Nurses of Ontario, etc.
  • Knowledge in current Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards as they relate to IPAC
  • Experience with review of architectural drawings, specifications, schematic and detailed design from the IPAC perspective
  • Experience with performing Infection control Risk Assessments (ICRA) and preventative measures analysis
  • Experience reviewing Infection Control (IC) Plans submitted by contractors and providing feedback as needed
  • Experience performing hoarding inspections prior to, during and before completion of construction projects
  • Teaching experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent time management and project management skills
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multitask
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Computer skills and familiarity with multiple software programs
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationship with others
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements
