Duties and Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Manager, Sprott Business Career Management Centre (SBCMC), the Business Career Coordinator is responsible for identifying, developing and retaining job opportunities for Sprott business undergraduate and graduate students and alumni.

The Business Career Coordinator will market Sprott students and alumni to public and private sector employers to provide sufficient employment opportunities for the students and alumni of the Sprott School of Business.

A thorough knowledge of all undergraduate and graduate programs within the Business faculty and the related professional working community is required.

The Business Career Coordinator will provide employment advising to undergraduate and graduate business students and will maintain responsibility for the development of employment preparation workshops and resource materials suitable to the professional working community.

The Business Career Coordinator should maintain an effective liaison between faculty and employers to enhance the climate for successful suitable part-time, summer and full-time graduate work opportunities.

In support of the business co-op students, the Business Career Coordinator should also maintain open and supportive communication with the Co-op Coordinator for the business students.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a job search function
  • The Business Career Coordinator must be able to represent the Sprott School of Business appropriately to current and potential business employers and members of the public and deal with a large number of students.
  • Experience with resume review, job search skills, interviewing techniques
  • Experience in presenting/facilitating/leading small, medium and large sized workshops
  • Strong Internet search skills; familiar with the job search sites, especially in the Ottawa market.
  • Background knowledge of business undergraduate programs and coop/internship programs.
  • Proficient with Orbis database, MS Office, and social media eg., Twitter, LinkedIn
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team; ability to multitask with tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • General knowledge of university procedures

Education and Experience:


The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Completion of a university honours degree in business (BCom), preferably with a concentration in HR or an acceptable equivalent.
