Are you interested in expanding your experience to include a diversity of new and interesting regulatory litigation work? Our Legal Services Branch provides litigation services to both the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) and the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery (MPBSD).


As Crown Counsel with the branch you will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of Provincial Offences Act (POA) prosecutions, administrative appeals, Judicial Reviews and Coroner's inquests; as well as to provide advice, training and litigation support for both ministries.

What can I expect to do in this role?: Duties will include:

  • Conducting prosecutions under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Employment Standards Act, and the Consumer Protection Act
  • Representing MPBSD at appeals before the Licence Appeal Tribunal
  • Representing MLITSD at appeals before the Ontario Labour Relations Board
  • Appearing before Ontario courts on Provincial Offences Act appeals and Judicial Reviews
  • Attending Coroners' Inquests on behalf MLITSD
  • Providing litigation support, training and advice to the client ministries
  • Participating in committees and administrative duties, as needed
  • Participating in special projects, as needed
  • Travel throughout the Province of Ontario

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario

Knowledge and Skills:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of and litigation experience in POA and/or criminal prosecutions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and litigation experience in administrative law and procedure
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the rules of evidence and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Crown counsel
  • Proven ability to function well under the pressure of timelines and unexpected demands
  • Proven judgment and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated communication skills
  • Demonstrated writing skills and computer literacy, including use of Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Ontario as required
