Basic Function:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Strategic Communications, this position is responsible for assessing, implementing and coordinating all internal communications channels and platforms.

They will provide support and guidance on best practices in alignment to internal communications to streamline and increase efficiency of internal communications channels to improve communications and enhance staff engagement.

This position is also responsible for assisting and providing support in implementing the Strategic Plan.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Monitor the impact of internal communications by identifying appropriate success metrics and analyzing trends and patterns in analytics reports (open rates, surveying, conducting one-on-one surveys with people from various areas to understand the comms needs/gaps) and report effectiveness of various internal communications, employee engagement metrics and report stats to manager, providing recommendations for improvement and to inform future content and decisions.

Oversee and maintain internal communications content/editorial calendar ― calendarize activities and support communication best practices.


Provide Zoo-wide staff training/information on best practices and formats for internal communications (i.e., templates) and collaborate with departments/project leads to ensure communications being sent align with our overall strategies/goals.


Work in collaboration with the IT department, develop and maintain new intranet system, governance and frameworks, and identify opportunities to update and implement new intranet practices as required.

Support the graphics, branding and communications opportunities available in the new Staff Learning Management System (LMS)


With support from both the Manager of Strategic Communications and the Manager of Talent Development research and implement an Employee Experience program to connect staff and enhance staff engagement.


Update the "Zoo 411" document and format regularly to ensure staff are regularly informed about current operations and activities happening onsite.

Update process and procedures to provide guidance for content contributors; provide training to new content publishers as appropriate.

Must adhere to all health and safety policies as outlined by the Zoo, including use of all proper PPE.


Reports to the supervisor the absence of or any defect in any equipment or protective device that they are aware of and which may endanger themselves or another staff member.

Reports to supervisor any contravention of the Ontario Health & Safety Act.

Ensures all accidents and hazards are reported to supervisor immediately.


Work in a safe manner at all times in compliance with Health & Safety, WHMIS and Toronto Zoo policies and procedures.

Perform all duties in compliance with industry standards including AZA, Occupational Health & Safety Act, legislated regulations, and recommended equipment/manufacturer's guidelines.

Follows all branch instructions.

Attends appropriate training courses as required.

Other related duties as requested by Supervisor or their designate.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess or working towards a post-secondary education in Communications/HR/related field.

Minimum two years' experience working in a corporate/internal communication position, or equivalent experience.

Excellent writing and editing skills; proven experience creating content that is engaging and informative.

Demonstrated expertise with project co-ordination.

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

Detail-oriented, with outstanding listening and communications skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to grasp new concepts quickly.

Be a self-starter, able to work with general direction and exercise independent judgment.


Able to prioritize tasks, manage time and adapt within a fast-paced environment, and ability to thrive under tight deadlines with limited resources.

Basic knowledge and/or demonstrated proficiency with administering training to all staff as required on internal communications practices, platforms, etc. as required

Must be capable of performing the physical demands of the job including light physical demands.

Must be able and willing to work shifts, weekends and Holidays.

Full G driver's license in good standing is an asset (e.g., Driving on site).

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator) and any previous experience with audio/video editing tools
