Job Summary:


Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Mayor's Community Liaison will work as part of a dedicated team supporting the Mayor and the City of Mississauga.

This job requires facilitated communication to a multitude of groups including staff, community groups and other levels of government.

The role requires strong customer service skills and the ability to manage challenging conversations along with having a high level of political acuity.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manage the Mayor's schedule, which includes all internal and external meetings and events, in consultation with the Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor, Stakeholder Relations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders and community groups interested in meeting with the Mayor.
  • Support Senior Advisor, Stakeholder Relations with the planning and execution of Mayor's events including public forums, food drive, town halls and special events. Attend and support the execution of events.
  • Work with Supervisor, Communications and Communications and Operations Advisor, to ensure greetings, remarks, and certificates are prepared for events.
  • Work with staff responsible to ensure briefings are provided for each event and meeting the Mayor attends.
  • Work with Senior Advisor, Stakeholder Relations to develop policies and procedures to address stakeholder inquiries.
  • Brief Manager of Stakeholder Relations on key issues or trends emerging from community outreach
  • Maintain electronic and manual filing systems, coordinate retrieval and storage of records
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with City and Regional staff, Federal and Provincial representatives, and Peel Regional Police, among others to be able to assist residents with a broad spectrum of requests
  • Assist in maintaining up to date mailing lists and telephone directories for key community groups, business owners, residents and frequent contacts
  • Assist Chief of Staff with scheduling where required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Note:

  • Ability to attend off site locations and staff the Mayor at events.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education, preferably with a focus on public administration or political science
  • Minimum 2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education & experience
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research
  • Highly developed political acuity, interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of local community organizations and stakeholders is considered an asset
  • Excellent time management skills, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience making domestic and international travel arrangements
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to work effectively with external organizations

Hourly Rate/Salary:
$ $ 48.17

Hours of Work: 35
