PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSISTANT

(TEMPORARY FULL TIME)
A temporary full time Physiotherapy Assistant position is available at North Wellington Health Care. The homesite for this position is the Louise Marshall Hospital. This position is expected to last approximately 6 months.


The Physiotherapy Assistant supports/assists the Registered Physiotherapist in providing quality physiotherapy services; by taking responsibility for clinical duties as assigned by the Physiotherapist.

The role of the PTA encompasses clinical and non-clinical components within different units of the hospitals; primarily consisting of inpatient and outpatient care.

The position requires flexibility and adaptability to the fluctuation in caseload, inpatient census and patient needs, assisting the therapist in the functional mobility of patients; independently teaching and supervising patients during treatment; ensuring patients perform exercises in an appropriate and safe manner, and supporting other educational and administrative activities as directed.


QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Skills and Attributes):

  • Graduate of an accredited Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant Program
  • Current BCLS CPR Certification
  • Sincere interest in quality patient care
  • Under direction of the responsible Physiotherapist:
  • Supervise and assist patients in exercise and treatment routines. Ensures patient's comfort and safety during treatment.
  • Administer therapeutic modalities and objective testing
  • Consult and collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members on patient's status and treatment
  • Education of patients and families, including instruction on the proper use of assistive and adaptive devices
  • Demonstrate appropriate and effective written, oral and nonverbal communication with patients, families, colleagues and the public
  • Capable of performing related duties; lifting; transferring patients, mechanical lifts, constant walking etc. (must meet ALL requirements of an occupational demands analysis)
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of rehabilitation principles and knowledge of applicable legislative policies
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Computer skills, experience with Meditech and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work well as an effective team member, as well as function comfortably independently
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills an absolute necessity
  • Organize and manage own daily caseload
  • Reviewing/documenting patient's status and progress on patient chart
  • Record workload measurement for patient care
  • Management of department inventory and equipment
  • Other duties as required

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Satisfactory performance and attendance required
  • Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date
  • Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment including providing proof of full COVID vaccination prior to being hired

HOURS OF WORK

  • Monday to Friday, as per department schedule
