POSITION OVERVIEW
This position supports a full range of special events and community building initiatives using an asset-based community development approach. We also plan and host various educational workshops and provide many resources in event planning and volunteer management.


In addition, Recreation Host often delivers equipment using a truck/utility trailer and preference will be given to applicants with ability/experience with driving a truck/trailer and physical ability to lift and move equipment.

Some training in hospitality, technical skills, working with volunteers and conflict resolution skills are assets. This position will be responsible for supporting festivals, events and volunteer programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by some related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of the policies and regulations governing the use of municipal facilities and equipment and public conduct within same.
  • Working knowledge of community special events and recreation programs, event equipment and safety procedures.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the community groups/volunteers/public under varying conditions in a professional manner.
  • Ability to set up, move and lift equipment.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports, inventory and records related to the work.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and action. LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
  • Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.
  • First Aid certificate.

HOURS OF WORK:


Hours for the Recreation Host will be scheduled to cover events mainly on weekends and some nights (Tues through Saturday schedule).

Most set up and tear down for special events occur in the early mornings and evenings. Preference will be given to applicants with availability.


Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C) of the Collective Agreement alongside the Letter of Understanding for Daily Guarantee for Recreation Host.

This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours.
