    SaskPower is seeking to hire a lawyer to join the SaskPower legal Department to provide effective legal services in connection with SaskPower's nuclear Small Modular Reactor Project. The Legal Counsel role is accountable to serve as the legal authority for the corporation. This position is responsible to provide legal services to the Corporation and its subsidiaries; ensuring the maximum protection of legal rights and to maintain operations within the limits prescribed by legislation while aligning departmental e orts with SaskPower's strategic goals and objectives.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    Provide informal (verbal) and formal (written) opinion on legal matters

    Meet with and advise employees at all levels regarding corporate and commercial and other legal issues

    Coordination of, and instructions to, external legal counsel

    Draft required documentation including without limitation, commercial contracts

    Provide advice and assistance in the preparation and application of corporate policies

    Participate in the development of strategy and negotiations with third parties

    Recommend and undertake initiatives required to preserve legal rights to the Corporation's property

    Monitor and advise the Corporation with respect to changes in the law

    Manage departmental resources e ectively by identifying e ciencies and best practices for the department with a focus on innovation and improvement

    Deliver presentations to SaskPower's Executive, Board of Directors and/or other Government committees regarding policies, programs, and budgets

    Other related duties as assigned

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD)

    Member of, or be eligible for membership in, the Law Society of Saskatchewan

    10 or more years related experience, an exceptional candidate with less experience may be considered

    Strong analytical capabilities

    Ability to foster and improve the long-term development and growth of the corporation, department, and sta

    Results oriented and strategic thinker with the ability to manage complex and con dential issues with extreme sensitivity and professionalism

    Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork

    Strong team player and legal skills

    Experience in advising, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements

    It would be an asset for a candidate to have experience working on complex projects as part of an in house and external legal team and to have a strong track record of delivering effective coordination of external legal resources and internal communication of legal issues.

    Must have a continuing record of professional development
