The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a
Project Lead at our Surface Plants in Ontario to join our
Project and Services team.

This is a permanent position. This position will report directly to the Superintendent of Project and Shutdown Management at the Coleman Mine.


In this role you will lead projects ($10-15M annually) including the management of all activities from Front End Loading (FEL) 1 studies through to Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) approval, execution, and handover to the Project Owner.

This includes management of detailed engineering design, procurement, project controls (Safety, Scope, Schedule, Quality, Cost), systems, construction support and management services for individual Projects.


Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Execute work using project management framework in a streamlined and effective manner.
  • Work in partnership with respective operations and support areas (reliability, engineering, environmental, legal, procurement etc.) to ensure efficient and safe execution of scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Assist in the requisitioning of parts & services associated with the Project, as well as to create work orders, operations and manage the Schedule associated with Project and Shutdown work in SAP. This includes collaborating with the integrated planning team to ensure work is integrated into the 7/21 schedule and major events calendar.
  • Work with Site operational planning teams to create a Master Schedule for the Plant shutdowns.
  • Lead projects assigned by Project and Shutdown Superintendent including the management and coordination of all activities from Inception through Execution.
  • Execute approved Capital, Operating, and Period/Shutdown projects including related commissioning/ops readiness.
  • Monitor contractor work approvals, site access, quality, efficiency, qualifications and safety.
  • Routinely forecast adherence to schedule, slippage and actions being taken to meet milestones and final completion date
  • Schedule operations in SAP, identifying critical issues in achieving milestones
  • Review and approve Requisitions for services and Service Entry Sheets related to projects.

About You

Education:


  • Certified P.M.P (Project Management Professional).

Experience:


  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management related role is required.
  • Front line supervisory capability and underground mine experience is preferred.
  • Work experience with Engineering Procurement Construction Management (EPCM) firms is preferred.

Skills:


  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Change Management knowledge and/or training.
  • Critical thinking skills, taking ownership for the whole.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Vale Production System (VPS) Technical, project management principles and strategies and strong project management skills.
