Job Description and Duties

  • Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
  • Help implement weekly/monthly circle time activities suitable for the groups' interest and development stage
  • Develop and implement childcare programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
  • Provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity.
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and wellbeing of children
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with coworkers and community service providers working with children
  • May supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants.
  • Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
  • Maintain daycare equipment
  • Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children

Requirements and Qualification

  • Early Childhood Level Certificate


  • Criminal record check

  • Vulnerable sector
  • Medical Certificate/ Doctor's Note
  • Immunization records
  • Tuberculosis test
  • First Aid Certificate
  • CPR Certificate

Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent


Pay:
$22.00-$32.08 per hour

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Whitehorse, YT: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:


  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
