About the role


Do you have the passion to lead and inspire a team? The Operations & Planning Department is looking for a Unit Manager who will be responsible for the direct supervision of Quality Assurance Analysts.


The Team:


The Operations and Planning Team is a National team working on the execution of the Personal Lines Strategy across IFC with expertise in Project Management, Business Analysis and Quality Assurance.

We offer the unique opportunity to work with our Personal Lines business & IT partners to develop and shape the systems used across the organisation.


Role and Responsibilities:


  • Within the team
  • Create an environment oriented to trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive team effort. Maintain healthy group dynamics; facilitate problem solving and collaboration.
  • Manager of People, responsible for providing support to the Quality Assurance on a daytoday basis in order to ensure resources are adequate and deliverables are met
  • Supervision of direct reports including: recruitment, performance management, productivity, professional development, mentoring and coaching, and employee satisfaction. Ensures employees are kept informed of updates, changes and new direction through regular team meetings.
  • Work with various departments to improve systems by managing and coordinating phases of the implementation of requirements and projects in order to meet department and company objectives.
  • Develop and implement recommendations to improve the team's efficiency.
  • Assist in developing and following up on the budget, and in planning resources and growth.
  • Participate and provide approval for promotion of changes to production, assessing whether the quality of the change is acceptable, the amount of testing is appropriate for the complexity of problems, and consider the impact to internal/external users.
  • Act as a resource person for internal clients/colleagues by answering questions on systems, attending technical meetings. May also participate in various project or process related committees.
  • Manage the prioritisation of project analysis and production implementation of system changes. Schedule all activities related to requirement analysis and testing phases based on the availability and specialization of team members, and on implementation dates scheduled.
  • Flexibility to work at different location based on project needs.

Your Skills:


  • Bilingual (French/English)
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience is an asset in order to coach and motivate the team
  • Strong people skills with a passion to build an engaged and high performing team
  • Bachelor Degree, PMP or ISTQB Software Testing Certification
  • Required
  • 5+ years of experience in functional testing and/or automated test development
  • Excellent judgement, analytical, interpersonal and team building skills
  • Exposure to project management and strong familiarity with the system development lifecycle
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; experience with MS Visio and MS Access an asset
  • Ability to collaborate with others in person and "virtually"
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills
  • Superior organizational, prioritization and multitasking skills required in order to manage multiple projects and meet various deadlines
  • Excellent oral/written communication.
  • Familiarity with Personal lines insurance an asset
  • Familiarity with Intact Personal Lines Systems an asset
