Description
Since its inception in 1989 The Doorway has shared participants stories and writings with our community members. Initially these stories were shared as part of quarterly newsletters distributed throughout our community using traditional mail.

Sharing these stories allowed participants to relate and connect to their peers on a richer level while feeling assurance they were not alone in their battles.

The newsletters also allowed our community members to distribute the stories within the border population thus raising awareness, stimulating conversations, and challenging perspectives.

Young people then, and still today, love to know people are listening and learning from them and are paying careful attention.

While The Doorway has maintained a firm belief, that as we welcome young people back into society it is our commitment to ensure the society they are joining, or rejoining is adequate.

These stories are a key component of our commitment, they inform us of the needs and challenges our young people face and help us shape our programmes and initiatives.

In 2017 as we witnessed the constant modernization of technology and the development of multiple online media platforms with boundless reach, we were motivated to grow the impact of young people's writing.

To achieve this goal, The Doorway set a priority to create a more efficient and effective qualitative data management system for our archive of participants stories/writing.

We are fortunate to be trusted with 35+ years of young people's written work, and this archive grows each day.

This drove the design and development of Witnessing Evolution (WE) a database that will host all their stories, in their words.

Our newly identified Story Ambassador role will oversee our WE database and ensure timely and accurate inputting of stories along with the delivery of quarterly reports highlighting the learnings and opportunities to support our participants moving forward.

This individual must be knowledgeable and passionate about the societal gaps, broken systems and social barriers young people exiting the streets face.

This knowledge will enable the individual to identify and carry out opportunities that advocate for our participants and stimulate conversation while valuing the integrity and dignity of our young people.

"No solution can be found until everyone understands the problem."
