Position summary
The database analyst (DBA) reports to the information technology (IT) operations manager.

You will be responsible for assisting in the designing, testing, planning, implementing, protecting, operating, managing and maintaining the College's databases.

This will be done in conjunction with the senior database specialist and other IT personnel in order to ensure the stable operation of the organization's IT infrastructure.

This includes the proactive planning and deployment of necessary upgrades, in terms of both hardware and software, to ensure the College can effectively carry out its obligations in a secure fashion.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple competing priorities and assignments.

You have a solid understanding of the technical and theoretical principals required in order to support the management of a complex database environment.

Duties and responsibilities


Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • assist with schema design, code review, SQL query tuning
- install, implement and upgrade DBMS installations
- write and deploy SQL patches
- proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements
- collate, prepare and present statistical information for internal and external use
- define hardware and infrastructure standards in conjunction with owners and stakeholders.
- test network and server performance and provide statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining network and server performance.
- work with respective team members to develop and test DR and BCP plans.
- easily design and implement a business process into functional and efficient code
- implement and manage company data management practices and policies

Skills and qualifications


Required skills and qualifications include:


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related information technology field
  • 3+ years of experience with programming languages such PL/SQL coding
  • 3+ years of experience in administering, managing and tuning databases
  • 3+ years of experience with Oracle RAC, SQL Server or MySQL
- strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, Windows server and desktop environments, SharePoint, Exchange, SQL, CRM, Dynamics AX
- functional knowledge of LAN/WAN protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP & SNMP
- strong understanding of high availability and disaster recovery principles, technologies and procedures
- solid experience with data center operations, VMware, phone systems and SAN environments
- expertise in SQL
- sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on organization's success
- advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
- experience with SharePoint, NAV, Azure and/or High Availability would be an asset

- attention to detail - attends to details and pursues quality in the accomplishment of tasks, regardless of the volume of duties encountered

The compensation range for this position is $65,344 - $81,860 per year.
