Reporting to the Manager, Campus Operations, and working under the supervision of the Coordinator, Distribution Services, the Facilities Operations Attendant supports general building operational maintenance, repairs, and custodial duties, and assists with room set-ups, material movements, including hazardous materials handling, and supports mail service and related record keeping.


Summary of Responsibilities**:


  • Perform a full range of general custodial support duties related to the care and maintenance of the University's buildings
  • Perform general maintenance on building furniture and equipment; maintain a monthly furniture inventory
  • Oversee general work orders and tasks related to grounds keeping, gardening, and snow removal
  • Conduct room setups for classrooms, meetings and special events
  • Receive materials, inspect shipments and reconcile packing slips or manifests with receivables; determine accuracy and completeness by verifying incoming shipments against the original order and the bill of lading or invoice
  • Perform data entry of all traceable packages using computerized tracking system
  • In conjunction with the Distribution Services Coordinator and Distribution Services Clerk, receive, sort and route all incoming and/or outgoing mail and packages for distribution
  • Maintain records on postage expenditures and costs
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of mailroom equipment (e.g. postage meter, fax machine, computer, printer, and scanner); troubleshoot and perform minor equipment repairs, as directed
  • Organize stock rooms and maintain related database of tools, equipment and supplies; report monthly
  • Ensure the proper receipt, storage, and disposal of chemicals and other hazardous material in accordance with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) guidelines
  • Provide assistance to the Distribution Services Coordinator with of the University's recycling program
  • In the absence of the Coordinator, Distribution Services and the Distribution Services Clerk respond to emergency requests, as required
  • Assist the Manager, Campus Operations, the Coordinator, Distribution Services and other departmental staff in other related tasks that contribute to the successful operation of Safety, Security& Campus Operations

Qualifications:


  • Secondary school diploma, or equivalent, with a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years' related work experience
  • Strong knowledge of WHMIS, occupational health and safety issues and current certification or the equivalent in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Emergency First Aid and Adult CPR certification
  • A valid G Class (G or G2) driver's license and an updated driver's abstract
  • Experience and certification in the safe operation of electric/manual pallet trucks
  • A safe working knowledge of, and experience working with power tools
  • Knowledge of postal rules, regulations, rates and customs protocols
  • Strong organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to plan, schedule and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated strength in customer service
  • Attention to detail, demonstrated reliability and the ability to work independently and participate collaboratively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to deal effectively with a diverse population
  • Occasional evenings and weekends required to meet operational and event needs

Compensation:
OPSEU Unit I, Appendix A, Grade A1; $34,333.83 to $46,594.53 per annum
