(18-Month Parental Leave Contract)

We are zero fabric waste, meaning we make use of every last piece of fabric we bring in:

our kid's line is made out of left-over bits from our other projects, as are many of our accessories.

Whatever remains and is too small to sew is made into Salvage Yarn, Craft Kits or used as stuffing for floor cushions and other fun projects.

The opportunity


We are currently seeking our next incredible Victorian to join our team to cover for an 18-month parental leave, supporting the overall operations of our bustling team while managing and overseeing our online presence as social media content creator.

This role is wide-ranging and is involved in almost every aspect of the business.

From managing our Shopify account, to creating phenomenal social media content, to corresponding with purchasers and suppliers (and a lot in between), our next Operations & Social Media Coordinator won't be bored.

Every day looks a little bit different, depending on what priorities are most pressing.


A day in the life

  • Manage and maintain the Shopify website, including both updating inventory and content
  • Create compelling, creative and beautiful social media content, including all photography (about 23 posts/week with a big focus on Friday drops)
  • Manage and maintain the various Smoking Lily social media channels
  • Create content for "Friday Drops" including newsletter distribution, social media posts, and new website copy
  • Own Smoking Lily's inbox management, directing messages to the appropriate person as needed
  • Support with fulfilment of orders in tandem with the fulfilment team
  • Update production boards and communicate upcoming priorities with production staff
  • Pull stock for orders, confirm shipping information and determine packaging needs
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate soldouts
  • Inspect incoming new product and add into inventory
  • Assist wholesale customers with orders, including fulfilment of wholesale orders
  • Answer phones and other correspondence
  • Adhoc admin duties, such as tracking down missing packages, answering administrative questions, or providing support to the owner

What you bring

  • 2+ years of postsecondary education, 3+ years of working experience in related fields, or a combination of both
  • Passion for the Smoking Lily brand and supporting creative, handmade local business
  • Prior experience working with the Shopify and Lightspeed platforms is a musthave
  • Significant experience working with social media, especially in content creation, building a following and audience engagement
  • Prior working experience in a local business or handcrafted industry will be considered an asset
  • Ability to roll with shifting priorities and a keen sense for what comes next in the big picture
  • Confidence to take initiative and know what projects naturally fall into next in line
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills (no typos here)
  • True appreciation of the little things and understanding that the details are vital
  • Ability (and desire) to work inoffice Monday to Friday, downtown Victoria, B.C.

Our offices are on the second level of a heritage building with no elevator.)
