Position Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Director Health Services, RN and/or LPN, the Health Care Aide acts as a member of the health care team, assisting with patient care and providing basic supportive care as directed.

The Health Care Aide demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

Experience:

Previous patient/resident care experience preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate):

Minimum Grade 10 education, Manitoba standards, required.
Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course required.

Qualifications and Skills:

Roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team.
Principles of personal care/rehab care/dementia care/chronic care.
Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload.
Ability to recognize and pursue selfdevelopment opportunities.
Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as necessary.
Demonstrates patient/resident focused care.
Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, reliability and creativity.
Functions effectively within a changing environment and an interdisciplinary team.
English fluency in both written and verbal communication.

Physical Requirements:

Involves physical activities such as standing, transferring, and transporting patients/residents and equipment.
May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
May encounter exposure to disease, toxic materials, noise, allergens etc.
Requires shift work, extended working hours.
