What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:
- provide group leadership, technical guidance and coordination of Fire Ranger crews
- promote and enhance the safety management system
- work in progressively challenging fire line assignments such as sector leader or division supervisor
- act in the Sector Response Officer function as required
Note:
This position will require travel and work in any area of the province and/or Canada when necessary.
How do I qualify?:
Mandatory:
- qualified at a minimum of Fire Incident Commander Level 5 (requires Initial Attack Incident Commander Course SP300 or equivalent)
- possess or have the ability to obtain a valid restricted radio-telephone operator's certificate
- physical ability to meet the demands of fire suppression activities
- ability to work for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions
Technical knowledge:
- possess initiative and the ability to assimilate new fire suppression strategies, tactics and techniques in a variety of fire control circumstances, and to understand and meet objectives with available resources
- knowledge of aerial operations, and fire behaviour observation and predictions
- knowledge of and ability to operate and maintain forest fire suppression equipment and related equipment including pumps, chainsaws and foam injection unit
People skills:
- demonstrated group leadership skills
- possess strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
- demonstrated analytical, planning, and coordination skills
General skills:
- ability to use geographic information systems (GIS)
- understanding of worker and supervisor responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
