About Our Opportunity
Under the direction of the Property Manager, the Janitor is responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in his/her assigned building(s).
Primary Accountabilities
- Review security report at the beginning of shift and take appropriate action including following cleaning standards and/or forward reports to the appropriate staff.
- Perform inspections throughout the building to determine the cleanliness and security.
- Ensure that the front entrance and public areas related to the interior and exterior are safe and clean.
- Maintain the cleanliness of common areas such as elevators, laundry rooms, public washrooms, lounges, recreation areas and storage rooms, etc. according to established service standards.
- Carry out routine cleaning, and inspection of janitorial equipment and report defects to Property Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 or high school equivalent plus two years' related experience.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, safety documents, WHMIS materials, guidelines, and service standards.
- Ability to convey written messages such as daily logs and maintenance recommendations.
- Ability to understand and operate equipment involved in cleaning while using good body mechanics.
- Ability to properly handle cleaning chemicals.
Assets
- Possess current Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety.
Competencies required at this level of work are Communication & Interpersonal skills, Time management & Organization, Client Orientation, Teamwork, and Initiative.
Equivalency
Checks may include one or more of the following: criminal background checks, driver's abstract, and confirmation of education credentials.
