The Manager, Accounting oversees the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements by the Accounting Team. Responsible for ensuring


Role accuracy and completeness of CPSA's revenues and non-payroll expenses


Summary:
during budgeting, quarterly forecasting and at year-end for financial reporting.
Summarizes financial information and makes recommendations to Leadership for decision-making. Provides direct supervision and performance management of a group of accounting team members.

Time

Accounting oversight duties:
Maintain relationships between the Accounting Team and all other
CPSA departments and program areas.
Review published month and quarter-end reporting packages for reasonability.
Review department and program area budgets and forecasts for appropriateness, challenges underlying assumptions, and follows-up with Leadership, as needed. 20%
Maintain CPSA's chart of accounts, including reviewing the requirements for new accounts, sub accounts and file numbering conventions.

Maintain CPSA's schedule of fees, ensuring that new and updated fees go through the appropriate approval process, and are appropriately implemented in CPSA's database of CPSA's (DOC) system, as required.

Provide back-up for the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), as needed.


Reporting and presentations:
Consolidate financial information and prepare briefing notes for reporting to Leadership.
Assist CFO with preparing materials for presentation to the Finance &

Audit Committee (FAC), including, but not limited to: o Quarterly financial results, 10% o Surplus review, and o Monitoring of executive limitations.

Assist CFO with preparation of accounting-related requests for proposals (RFPs) and the subsequent evaluation of bids.


Accounting reviews and reconciliations:
Monitor completion of month, quarter, and year-end close procedures by Accounting Team.

Review month and quarter-end working papers and journal entries prepared by the Accountant/Financial Analyst, including quarterly revenue and monthly investment account reconciliations.

Conduct regular monitoring of all revenue and deferred revenue 20% accounts for detection of potential errors, and take corrective action, as required.

Review financial reporting for government grants prior to sign-off by
CFO.
Review monthly GST returns.
Provide back-up for Accounting Team, as required.


Management and Supervision:
Manage accounting team members including the: o Accountant/Financial Analyst o Payroll & Accounting Coordinator o Senior Accounting Clerk o Accounts Payable Clerk
Provide ongoing coaching and support for all accounting team 20% members, including weekly touchpoint meetings with each team member.
Conduct quarterly check-ins and annual reviews to manage team performance.

Participate in CPSA Manager Rounds to gain perspective on department and program activities across the organization and provides accounting insights when relevant.


IT Projects liaison:
Act as accounting lead for joint projects between Accounting, IT and external vendors.
Consult on accounting requirements for new and updated modules in 20%
Manage testing of IT changes impacting Accounting and approve migration of changes to production.

Manage external audit process, prepare year-end working papers:

Review and provide guidance for drafting year-end audited financial statements, and notes thereto, to ensure completeness, accuracy, and overall compliance with relevant financial reporting standards.

Coordinate the year-end financial statement audit with CPSA's external 10% auditor
Review audit working papers prior to submission to external auditors.

Skills
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Strong attention to detail; Strong analytical skills; Experience leading a small team.

Proficient with MS Excel; Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and BI360/Solver considered an asset.
