Position Overview:


Reporting to the Technology Training Supervisor, the Technology Trainer will provide effective instructional design, training and evaluation to customers, internal personnel, and varied audiences to support and promote the Technology Solutions products and services.

Support development and execution of Technology Solutions focused training programs.


As the Technology Trainer for Finning Canada they will play a key role in understanding our customers needs for training relating to Technology Solutions and ensure a proper fit for instructional design, training, and evaluation to customers to achieve those goals.

Internal training requirements for Finning personnel to enable the ability of the workforce to sell, implement, operate, and support the variety of Technology offerings.


The role will also ensure that all materials are updated with the latest developments and execution of Technology Solutions focused training programs.


Job Description:


Major Job Functions:
Delivery of Training

  • Provide Technology Product Training for Caterpillar, Trimble, CUBIQ and Condition Monitoring Technologies onsite and remote.
  • Support Caterpillar, Trimble, CUBIQ and Condition Monitoring with the development curriculum for training courses based on feedback from Finning Operations team and Customer feedback. Objectives established for the various training programs, oversee development and updates to course modules, appropriate training materials, and testing.
Development of Training

  • Design and conduct demonstrations at technology learning centers, Simulation Schools, at customer site locations, etc.
  • Demonstrate safe practices, features, capabilities and operation of technology products.
  • Develop and maintain demonstration areas to best display product features and benefits.
Building on Training Programs

  • Interact heavily with Caterpillar, Trimble, CUBIQ, Condition Monitoring, Finning Users and customers. Professionally and competently to capture and address a broad range of customer questions and concerns.
  • Communicate with appropriate business units concerning product performance and recommendations for improvement based on customer feedback during training.
  • Conduct job studies and/or competitive training product analysis at various job sites to determine technology training competitive advantages and opportunities which will inform development and commercial practice.
  • Develop methods for determining Finning employee competencies in the different Operational roles required to support customer deployments.
  • Provide on the job training to support the improved performance both Finning and customer workforce to maximize value from the Technology Solutions Products.
  • Support division's business plan and commercial activities.

Education & Experience:

  • Mine Operations or Maintenance experience
  • Experience in adult education delivery
  • Minimum 5 to 7+ years of progressively related instructional design and training roles
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation; haul truck, track type tractors, graders, and excavators
  • Experience in developing training materials and presentation techniques
  • Demonstrated technology training experience (classroom, Caterpillar, Finning and customer facing).
  • Experience with Caterpillar MineStar Products (Fleet, Terrain, Detect, Health, and Command) deemed
