Provides resident-focused food service in the Long Term Care Home, including: preparation of resident meals and snacks; distribution and service of resident meals; receiving, storing and managing the inventory of resident food and food service supplies; daily cleaning and sanitizing of dishes, utensils and equipment used for resident meal preparation, delivery and service; operation of equipment; as well as other related duties as required for compliance and the efficient operation of the home.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, plus completion of a Food Service Worker program, a Food & Nutrition Management diploma or degree, Assistant Cook, Cook, or Institutional Cook certification program, or, an equivalent combination of education and/or experience as permitted by the applicable legislation/Act
- If currently enrolled in an accepted program (i.e. Food Service Worker, Assistant Cook, Cook, Institutional Cook), completion within the timeframe prescribed by legislation/Act
- A current Safe Food Handling Certificate as required by legislation/Act
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Up to 1 month of current related experience, preferably in a long term care geriatric setting
- Knowledge of kitchen operating procedures, food storage and safekeeping
- Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, legislation, regulations, guidelines and best practices applicable to the longterm care sector
SKILLS:
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff and residents
- Ability to read menus
- Must possess the ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- High standards of cleanliness and organization
- Strong attention to detail
- Time management skills in order to meet demanding schedules
- Competent working with_ _digital/electronic technology; including electronic tablets, computers/laptops, food servicerelated software (i.e.
