Description

The Project Manager/ Estimator will assist in the planning, executing, and delivery of Company projects on time, within budget, and in accordance with specifications.

The Project Manager/ Estimator will help define project requirements and scope, acquire project resources, and support the efforts of project team members.

Efficient delivery of project requirements, effective quality control, clear communication of expectations to stakeholders and upward reporting to management are critical tasks that must be performed.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare cost estimates for construction projects
Prepare public and private tender packages for review and submittal
Perform site visits, measuring, take-offs, submittals, etc.
Read blueprints to estimate project cost-effectively
Document organization and control, equipment and manpower requirements, and review the estimate for completeness of take-off, scope, and pricing.
Prepare schedules and job hand-off for packages for awarded works
Project execution team support including subcontractor coordination, site meetings, scheduling, and contract administration
Liaise actively with project delivery teams to identify, develop, and submit change orders
Develop, maintain, and regularly review up-to-date project progress information, including Critical Path scheduling, work-in-progress reports, and analysis of all job costs
Liaise with subcontractors and trades on various estimates for the construction project
Work with the Managers and on-site superintendent to coordinate the activities of the Foremen and subcontractor work crews as required

Provides necessary documents to field superintendents and foremen in a timely manner and follows up on all open action items.

Provide ongoing support to field personnel to help identify and remove obstacles that impact construction progress, resolve challenges with respective owners, and identify and implement
profit improvement strategies to the job, as needed
Provide assistance to owners in modifications resulting in Change orders.
Coordinate, price, and process change orders or technical problems with owner requirements, and change orders with owners timely.

Review time sheets, all purchase orders, delivery tickets, subcontractor requisitions, and invoices to ensure that they are coded correctly for project costing.

Visit project sites daily for troubleshooting and for the purposes of ensuring project quality.
Initiate and review regular project billing
Proactively supports the corporate safety program and sets a positive example
Participates in job closeout activities, including preparation of as-built drawings, retaining release from subcontractors, ensuring warranty information provided to the owner, final payment quantities, and payment and recovery of holdback
Perform other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
A university degree in Civil or Resource Engineering or another related discipline is an asset
2-5 years of similar experience preferred
Previous experience estimating public and private tenders is an asset along with experience managing projects
Previous experience in heavy civil construction an asset
Knowledge of various Estimating and constructions software including Bid2Win, Bluebeam, Excel, etc. an asset
Ability to work as part of an estimating/construction team
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Professional attitude, punctual, assertive, and personable
High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
Ability to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanor and high sense of urgency
