INSTRUCTOR, CHILD AND YOUTH CARE

FACULTY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES


NorQuesters are difference makers and we're searching for someone dedicated to making a difference to join our Faculty of Arts and Sciences team as an Instructor in our Child and Youth Care program.

This position is for the Fall 2023. There are 2 term positions available and multiple casual positions available.

Our Child and Youth Care program is designed to prepare learners to practice in community programs that support children and youth in care.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Deliver high quality instruction which facilitates highest possible learning gain among adult students.
  • Prepare learning materials according to college and program guidelines suitable for adult students.
  • Ensure that plans and developed materials adhere to basic standards.
  • Prepare supplemental materials as needed.
  • Evaluate effectiveness and appropriateness of lesson delivery, assignments and tests.
  • Provide formative and summative evaluation and feedback to students in a timely fashion which supports learning gain.
  • Assess students for placement, complete formed assessments as required and participate in case conference.
  • Work with students to improve practical skills.
  • Prepare and facilitate laboratory activities.
  • Deliver lab and theory courses and maintain student records.
  • Supervise learner practicum experiences.
  • Work as a member of a team, including liaising with casual instructors.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Child and Youth Care or related field, Masters preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience working in Child and Youth Care with increasing responsibility.
  • Able to be certified as a Child and Youth Care Counsellor through the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta.
  • Availability to teach classes on weekdays OR evenings and Saturday daytime hours.
  • Vulnerable sector check within the last 30 days.

WHAT MAKES YOU A DIFFERENCE MAKER?

As a difference maker you bring bring:

  • A solid understanding of and appreciation for the Child and Youth Care profession combined with practical Child and Youth Care experience.
  • Previous instructional experience in a postsecondary environment and course work in adult education, with evidence of studentcentered teaching excellence.
  • Experience with learner management systems (ie. Moodle, adobe connect, PeopleSoft student) and computer programs (ie. word, outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

SALARY:
Reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. Plus an additional 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation.

This is a Faculty role therefore the pay range is quite large, the Faculty Association agreement outlines how pay is determined.
