Job duties:

  • MUCA's main point of technical reference for materials.
  • Repairs, maintains, calibrates, adjusts, and installs industrial measuring and controlling instrumentation relating to the manufacture of food packaging film for MUCA.
  • Application of training and knowledge of the many types of material used by MUCA (polypropylene, polyethylene, etc.) is essential for the position. MUCA's food packaging is designed to extend shelf life and reduce food and material waste. The unique combination of materials/chemicals in the film, film thickness, temperature, film flexibility, and pressure must all be taken into consideration when designing and providing the appropriate technical product for a particular food product since each type of plastic/film can react differently depending on the type of food.
  • Consult manufacturer's manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints when occasionally required. Determine the appropriate tests and maintenance procedures for instruments on MUCA equipment that control many different variables (such as flow, level, pressure, temperature, chemical composition and other variables in manufacturing) and adjust multiple variables on this equipment.
  • Inspect and test the operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments. MUCA machines contain sensors that monitor temperature, pressure, and vacuum seal point. Review the information provided by these sensors and based on the information received, diagnose faults and formulate the appropriate solution.
  • Consult with and advise customer staff to advise on the correct process and procedures.
  • Provide training and support to local Field technicians on materials offered by MUCA.
  • Perform special technical services such as: material troubleshooting, material demonstrations and trials, installations/commissioning, preventive/scheduled maintenance programs, breakdowns, machine audits, retrofits, rebuilds, handson FST training, spare/wear parts refurbishing, etc.
  • Liaise with Help Desk, Spare Parts, Sales, and all other stakeholders to provide support.
  • Assist with maintenance of the Brampton Innovation Centre for a state of Customer demo readiness using applicable resources under the guidance of service management.
  • Assist in support of all MUCA's quality issues in accordance with policy as delegated to ensure resolution and technical interaction with other MULTIVAC international office locations.
  • Actively participate in additional projects as required by the Senior Director, Customer Care. Manage changing priorities and diverse range of assignments.
  • Share knowledge and experience with the Team.
  • Keep current on trends affecting the industry and technology. Be able to interpret business situations and act appropriately to get things done; be dedicated to meeting the requirements of all customers.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of product developments and version releases, to publish and distribute changes/impact of business to the technical function.
  • Travel to and from customer sites and act as site liaison with customers as required

Performance Measures:
Consistently make travel arrangements per company policy and in the most cost effective and time efficient manner possible. Consistently keep customers informed of arrival times.

Terms of employment:
Permanent position, 40 hours per week.

Wage (must include any incremental raises, performance pay or bonuses): $44.29 per hour. Overtime work and rotational schedule coverage compensated in accordance with the Company's standard compensation policy.

Location(s) of work: Brampton, Ontario and 80% travel across Canada. Schedule needs to be flexible to accommodate internal and external customer's schedules. Willing to work outside normal business hours as job dictates. Provide after hours support as needed.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements (includes education and work experience):

  • Undergraduate degree or post-secondary diploma in a related field such as food processing engineering or food packaging material structures.
  • 5+ years of previous field experience in packaging film and materials is required.
  • A combination of formal education and previous experience will also be considered.
  • Previous field service work experience mandatory (handson MULTIVAC equipment/machine repair).
  • Experience in a range of materials/films including the following is mandatory thermoformable films (vacuum and MAP) and upper webs, experience in MultiFresh and MultiCook films would be a definite asset.
