_ What's the job?_


Reporting to the Plant Process & Quality Manager, the Quality Laboratory Technician monitors product, process and raw material quality parameters against specifications, performs laboratory testing according to Control Plan and Test Methods, enters results into the computerized database, communicates results to the Quality and Process Team, and maintains the Laboratory working areas and their equipment in a safe, orderly and functional condition.


  • Ensures a focus on a safe work environment and practice.
  • Operates a variety of laboratory equipment to perform testing.
  • Enters test data into the computerized testing results database.
  • Communicates results to the Quality and Process Team. Nonconforming test results or issues with testing equipment or methods must be communicated within the same day, following the Reaction Plan.
  • Demonstrates ownership and practical knowledge of all applicable Test Methods and Control Plan.
  • Provides Qualityrelated technical assistance of plant personnel, and other efforts to promote the Culture of Quality.
  • Keeps the laboratory working area and equipment in a functional, clean, and orderly condition, and maintains laboratory supplies.
  • Performs daily fitnessforuse checks on the laboratory equipment.
  • Coordinates laboratory instrument calibration per schedule.
  • Prepares for and participates in Quarterly UL audit.
  • Participates to trials generating additional quality tests.
  • Performs daily rock and reclaim inventory log and report.
  • Assists with quality hold disposition and customer complaints investigation.
  • Other qualityrelated duties as required.

Requirements:

What do you bring?_**- Post-secondary education in quality, chemistry, physics, or engineering Technology.

  • Computer knowledge in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Requires one to three years' experience in a laboratory activity in a manufacturing environment.
  • Production experience in a gypsum manufacturing environment is considered as asset.
  • Basic to Intermediate Statistical Process Control.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a wide array of plant personnel ranging from hourly employees to management.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills, ability to establish priorities, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strong manual dexterity skills.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills/critical thinking.
  • Detailoriented.
  • Previous experience in gypsum, paper, or building materials is considered as asset.
