Your opportunity:


Reporting to the Department Manager, the Communication Officer implements a robust, clear, and focused departmental digital communication strategy across a broad range of communication channels including the renewal of the departmental website and branding of the Department working in collaboration with FAS Communications and following the University's branding guidelines.

The Communication Officer works with faculty members and FAS Communications to promote faculty research in the media and to the public.

The Communication Officer is responsible for preparing and developing all print and electronic communications; writing content for and overseeing the production of the Psychology newsletter; coordinating graphics and photographs submissions for all communications materials.

This position also builds and maintains a digital media presence to promote and foster a sense of community amongst students, learners, faculty, staff, and alumni.

The Communication Officer is responsible for conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities, including determining logístical details and activities for events and/or programming.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Implementing digital communication plans across a broad range of marketing/communication channels
  • Researching and identifying opportunities to promote programs and initiatives
  • Promoting programs and service offerings to internal and/or external contacts
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Creating and maintaining presence on social media platforms
  • Coordinating website updates and ensuring technical issues are resolved
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
  • Determining logístical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Writing and editing copy and content to advance communications objectives
  • Editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and other communication vehicles

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications, marketing, writing/journalism or related field and/or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant communications experience in a university, teaching hospital or comparable complex multistakeholder environment
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating digital and print communications projects consistent with employer branding
  • Experience advising on and implementing communications and outreach strategies and plans, including those that target Alumni
  • Experience preparing reports and making recommendations for inclusion in strategic documents
  • Experience conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
  • Experience writing concisely and to deadline
  • Experience conducting research, interviews and writing and editing content for publication
  • Experience advising on and implementing social media campaigns
  • Experience managing content for websites and newsletters
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in MS Office (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and good judgment
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative, accuracy, and organizing work effectively and establishing priorities in a flexible way
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and deal effectively and professionally with faculty, stud
