    Description
    Responsibilities :

    The successful applicant will:

  • During the earlier (EPC) stage of the project, work in collaboration with Project staff and Contractor to provide quality surveillance and review support on Instrument & Controls equipment design, installation, and testing.
  • During earlier (EPC) stage of the project, work in collaboration with plant Maintenance team and Project staff to review and approve the maintenance strategies and spare part requirements for I&C equipment in support of implementation of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP).
  • During commissioning and start-up phase, provide support to Project Engineers in ensuring prudent procedures and steps are applied for safe and successful plant start-up.
  • Thereafter, after steady state operations is achieved, act as the resident subject-matter-expert in the plant for issues relating to Instrument and Controls equipment:
    - Especially in complicated and critical cases, provide prudent guidance to maintenance and operations teams, such as in the development of equipment strategies/programs and operating procedures, and during turnarounds.
    - Lead diagnostics efforts for rapid recovery during forced outages and where equipment is not performing to specifications.
    - Lead Root-Cause-Analysis effort for failures so as the root causes are eradicated.
  • Lead the Plant Alarm Management program in the diagnostics and ultimately elimination of nuisance alarms.
  • Direct and mentor junior engineers.
  • Requirements

  • Instrument and Controls Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years as Instrument and Controls Engineer, preferably in an LNG Production Facility.
  • Comprehensive understanding of P&IDs, PFDs, Control System schematics, diagrams and narratives, and Cost and Effects analysis.
  • Advanced working knowledge in at least 80% of the following areas relating to Instrument & Controls equipment and good working knowledge in the remaining:
    - Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Controls Systems (DCS) and Emergency Shutdown systems. Advanced working knowledge in systems such as Yokogawa and Siemens would be an asset.
    - High Integrity Pressure Protection system (HIPPS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Fire & Gas (F&G) and compressor Anti-Surge protection.
    - Centrifugal compressors
    - Electrical motors
    - Machinery in cryogenic application
    - Machinery Monitoring systems
    - Applicable codes such as ISA, API, ISO and NFPA
    - Various field devices such as temperature, pressure and level measurement, gas chromatographs and gas metering systems
    - Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
  • Additional Requirements:

  • Proven leadership skills to lead teams and mentor junior staff.
  • A motivated person with a mentoring and coaching approach.
  • Energetic in pursuit of continuous improvement processes.
  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Communication/interpersonal skills – interacting with front-line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and change priorities within tight time frames.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Expertise with a variety of computer programs.
  • A valid driver's license and passport.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • This role will be a combination of office and site based.
  • The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), with an initial stay period at the Vancouver Office, followed by travel to the Module Fabrication Yards in China and a visit to Houston project office as required.
