We're looking for an Assignment Editor to work with the news teams in Vancouver.

They will play a leading role in helping us to chase and coordinate coverage of breaking news and original stories to air on our streaming channels, our daily news programs, and our digital platforms.

Other responsibilities include assigning stories, managing news resources and collaborating with our news partners at CityNews, OMNI and CityNews 1130.

The position may require shift work like early morning, evening and weekend shifts.

What you will do:


  • Manage the daily news flow and news resources.
  • Lead the daily story meeting
  • Work with video journalists, reporters, shootereditors and producers to deliver news content to our CityNews 24/7 streaming channels and our daily newscasts.
  • Work with CityNews Vancouver journalists to assign stories for our new prime time news specials.
  • Maintain contacts and sources.
  • Manage the assignment file and plan future shoots, including weekend coverage.
  • Coordinate resources and content with CityNews, OMNI News, CityNews 1130, syndication desk and other markets.
  • Vet stories.

What you will bring:


  • Passion for news you know what makes a great story and what it takes to chase it.
  • You know Vancouver and the diverse communities that make this a great city, and can identify stories that are broadly relevant to our audience.
  • Proven newsroom experience. Assignment desk experience is preferred.
  • This is a leadership position, you should have a demonstrated ability to manage newsroom relationships and resources.
  • News moves fast You must be able to multitask and deliver for multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines without losing your cool. You are organized and have superior communication skills.
  • Because news never stops you are prepared to work evenings and weekends.
  • You know how to vet stories.
