March 8, 2024**Lumenus Community Services is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator, to act as a champion for health, safety, and wellness initiatives across the organization.

The Health and Safety Coordinator will develop and administer programs supporting emergency preparedness, incident reporting and response planning, oversee and administer the Joint Health and Safety Committees operating across all Lumenus operating sites, as well as oversee and continuously improve the staff leave, accommodation, and return to work programs as a key member of the People and Culture Team.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Develop, coordinate, and proactively administer continuous improvement of the health and safety program at Lumenus to maintain legislative and regulatory compliance and foster a culture of workplace safety and wellness.
  • Identify, review, develop and revise health and safety policies, accompanying procedures, and guidelines through consultation with operating areas and external stakeholders to meet compliance requirements and build consensus throughout the development process.
  • Advance emergency preparedness and response planning by developing and overseeing implementation of organizational health and safety policies, accompanying procedures, and supporting risk management programs in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan and lead organizational health and safety initiatives informed by monitoring government announcements, legislative and regulatory changes, environmental updates, and health sector best practices.
  • Lead Joint Health and Safety Committees across the organization to provide expertise and centralize proactive oversight of health and safety challenges, alternatives, and risk management initiatives in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee and administer collection of health and safety incident reports to coordinate timesensitive responses through collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Analyze and report on health and safety incident data and accompanying development of recommendations based on this data to support health and safety programs, training, and communications.
  • Develop, administer, and coordinate leaves, accommodations, and successful return to work programs to support staff wellness and organizational needs.
  • Liaise with insurers, benefits providers and government ministries and agencies to discuss claims, issues, and opportunities to facilitate effective management of staff leave and accommodation files.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to research, develop and update the multiyear accessibility plan and supporting implementation strategy to meet and exceed compliance requirements as well as organizational needs.
  • Identify, design, and implement comprehensive wellness programs to support the wellbeing of staff and address organizational needs.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Minimum three years work experience in a health and safety compliance role.
  • Minimum three years work experience managing employee accommodation, leave, and return to work files.
  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in a related field including Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety,
  • Disability Management, or Business Administration.
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee certification (Part 1 and Part 2)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:


  • Thorough understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements impacting health and safety, employment standards, and employee wellness including knowledge of best practices and industry trends influencing the healthcare sector.
  • Excellent research and analysis skills to identify compliance requirements and implement organizational responses including those from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and under relevant workplace legislation and accompanying regulations including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • Expertise in public health preparedness and emergency management best practices.
  • Strong analytical, coordination and project management skills including the ability to prioritize evolving and conflicting demands, meet deadlines, and stay productive under pressure.
  • Effective organizational, problemsolving, and communication skills to build consensus and support for health and safety initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams.
