FRENCH SUMMER CAMP MANAGER
(CONTRACT FROM JULY 15 -AUGUST 9, 2024)

Job Summary:


The Summer Camp Manager is responsible for planning and overseeing the day to day summer camp program activities, providing leadership and promoting a fun and safe environment.

The Summer Camp Manager works effectively with staff (camp counselors), working with families and children, connecting with the community and assuming administrative responsibilities related to the daily operations of the Summer Camp program.

This position requires an individual with a sincere enjoyment of children and an appreciation of their needs, outdoor activities and education including program delivery.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Models the T.E.A character values of love, caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through your actions and conversation with staff members, parents and children.
  • Works directly with the camp director in developing programming, planning and overseeing daily activities, teacher and staff scheduling, purchasing of necessary supplies, administrative duties, and general camp operations.
  • Coordinate with Toronto Catholic School Board in implementing the Focus on Youth program within the camp.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the host school, caretakers and school board staff to ensure the successful operation of the summer camp programs
  • Plans. organizes and implements training for camp counselors, camp leader, student staff, volunteer and French teachers and addresses personal concerns, as necessary; Conduct performance appraisal and evaluation to camp staff
  • Coordinates and leads weekly staff meetings.
  • Organizes and implements weekly events, including working with the community/francophone performers/local business to arrange games, music, and coordinating field trips.
  • Organizes materials needed for daytoday activities and curriculum.
  • Communicates with parents about their child's needs and achievements and discuss concerns and improvements.
  • Assists with a dropoff and pickup system, monitoring and providing a safe environment for all children and their parents in the program.
  • Maintains accurate records of attendance and signin/out documentation.
  • Ensures all weekly and daily camp schedules are completed satisfactorily in a timely manner; complies with the camp schedule, arriving to work punctually on a daily basis and working as a team player.
  • Knows, understands, trains and executes all camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp.
  • Communicates with parents and addresses parent concerns in a timely manner. Seeks the guidance of the camp director, when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the camp director, as business needs dictate.

Qualifications Required:


  • Postsecondary education in Education or Childcare, OCT or Teacher Assistant an asset
  • 35 years summer camp or related experience
  • 23 years experience in leading, supervision and administration of camp or youth programs
  • Prior experience working with children between the ages of 6 to 1
  • Childcare experience, an asset
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Special Needs & CPI Training (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention), or willing to complete training
  • Current Criminal Reference Check Report, Vulnerable Sector
  • Genuine passion and desire to work with children
  • Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written
  • Knowledge of Mandarin and community, an asset
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule

Working Conditions:


Hours of work:
approximately 40 hours per week depending on the schedule; normal working hours are weekdays (8:00-4:00).
